Is this the best way to move your blog up? I have been trying to get my blog to do soemthing anything I guess asking people to view and bookmark could be a good way to start to build a list. Digg it man!

@Scam, I’ve seen numerous blog posts that recommend displaying your subscriber chicklet once you’ve reached 100 subscribers. I’m not quite there yet, but will be pretty soon (I hope).

I definitely agree that subscribing to the RSS feed is very helpful. Like you said, not every post is one I would be interested in, but soon there is one. I’m gradually building up a list of blogs I subscribe to in this way, and I’ve become a regular fixture commenting when I feel I have something useful to say.

Although I think most bloggers have heard most or all of these suggestions at one time or another I doubt very many are doing all of them. I know I’m not! I think this article serves as a great reminder that we could be doing a few things better to increase our RSS subscribers.

I think RSS is one of the major advantages of a blog.
Personally, I am much more likely to sign up for a feed than I would be for an email newsletter. I think RSS is the new “list” that everyone says you should be building.

It’s something that I’ve only been doing recently. I guess it’s a good way for people to measure how wide your audience is.

I offer a full feed on my blog so a lot of my readers do prefer to read from the Feed Reader rather than come to the site.

Do you think using the Feedburner chiklet to display the number of subscribers you have is good for ’social proofing’ your site (assuming you have a decent number of subscribers) ?

I’ve done about 3 out of 10 so far. Not sure about HUGE feed icon but I may try a more “in your face” approach to get feed numbers higher.

One thing that I think helps it to refer to it as “subscribe to this” rather than talking about it as an RSS feed. Many people are not familiar with the term RSS, but they know how to add things to their google homepage or subscribe to email newsletters.
