Good old April Fools Linkbait

02. Apr 2007 | 5 Comments

Google TispIt’s around this time of year that I try not to believe everything I read on any seo or search marketing blogs.

However I’ve seen a few good April Fools linkbait examples that deserve some link love:

Google Themselves: have crafted this fantastic concept of receiving wireless internet in your house free using the patented GFlushâ„¢ system.

The second one that caught my attention was Matt Cutts & The Dark SEO Team each seemingly “hacking” each other in a rather amusing fashion. One would assume that if Matt knew his blog was hacked it’d be fixed fairly quickly…..

Finally the last one of note was Shoemoney who came up with this Cryptic Graphic which any of you fanatical Lost watchers would have recognised as the Hanso Foundation symbol.

The problem with April Fools linkbait is that you can’t really capatilize on it until you have a good foothold in the market. You need a loyal fanbase that will email others, post on blogs, post of forums to find out why the site is down or who hacked you. So as the old saying goes, the rich get richer ;)

I try to just ignore the entire internet on April Fools Day. At least some of the pranks are creative, but the site hacking and crazy buyout rumors seem to resurface every year.

Here is a round up of most of the pranks for this year- http://aprilfools.urgo.org/2007.html

Your last line sums it up so well.

“The rich get richer”

How the hell do I get to a point were I can just tell jokes and make more money?
