Wordze is giving away a free downloadable excel spreadsheet featuring all of Google’s top traffic driving search terms since 8th Jan 08.

I use Wordze combined with Google’s Keyword Tool for a large bulk of my keyword research for PPC & Organic SEO so I definitely rate what they’re doing very highly.

I’m pretty sure that most of this data is pulled from Google Trends, which updates daily with the top terms.

Simply visit the Gtrends Section of the Site & enter your information to get the Excel Spreadsheet

I’d like to introduce all of you to Wordze, a unique keyword research tool that not only boasts many unique features but is already causing a stir in the Affiliate Marketing Community...

I’d like to introduce all of you to Wordze, a unique keyword research tool that not only boasts many unique features but is already causing a stir in the Affiliate Marketing Community.

Features & price are always the selling point of any product. Wordze lives up to both of those promises by not only packing in a lot of new features but also giving them to the end user at least 30% cheaper than any other keyword analysis tool out there. This should make the product instantly appealing to those of you who already paying for the likes of Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery.

Features

Keyword Research Tool

The Keyword Research Tool is the bread & butter of Wordze. The data comes directly from ISP’s & other sources which allows for more accurate results & reporting. Here you can type in the keyword you want to research & either set it on exact, phrase or broad matching to pull up the desired results.

The keyword data is then published neatly & very very quickly in a table with the following metrics:

Count: This is the number of searches for that keyword Wordze has seen from its Data Providers within the last 24 hours.

Estimation: This is a cross calculation from various internet portals & data providers to give an outlook on keyword volume for a rolling 30 day period.

KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index): This compares the number of searches to the number of results in the Search Index. The lower the KEI is the harder a particular keyword is to rank for. This is especially useful for picking out noncompetitive yet high searched niches.

The Historical Data allows you to chart a keywords popularity over time. The example below shows the increase in popularity for Prom Dresses in August. I’d quite like to see this tool give the data over a 12 month period instead of monthly to get data on yearly trends.

Wordrank

Wordrank was originally developed by Levi over at his Make Money Online Blog (which I suggest you check out). The technology is used to calculate the difficulty in ranking for a particular keyword using a number of factors, again the lower the number is then the harder that keyword is to rank for.

Having a look at the term earn money online (which I’m currently ranking #8) it returns the following data:

The main aim of this metric is to provide more consistent data than simply just using the KEI to determine how hard a niche is to rank for. It can give some valuable insights, one of which is the number of links per month a domain is acquiring:

Whilst on first glance the KEI would suggest that the term earn money online is hard to rank for the Wordrank data shows a slightly different picture. This kind of data can be invaluable when you are trying to evaluate many niches quickly. You’re basically getting a nice view of how many links you need for your site to rank.

It would be nice for this tool to analyse the links a bit further & possibly only include the links that use the appropiate anchor text for the keword. For example, this site has 550 inbound links with the anchor text earn money online. For me that’d give a much more accurate picture on how many targeted links I needed.

Other Features Include:

A Keyword Thesaurus that lets you find related & alternate keywords you would not have thought about using.

The Keyword Digger, this allows you to specify a keyword, then will find all the other words that webmasters are also using to optimise their sites.

Top Keywords from the past month. You can see what the top 5000 keywords were for the previous month in a downloadable excel spreadsheet. I actually found this report was filled with quite a few junk keywords but there were also literally hundreds of keywords I’d never ever thought about capatilising on. I really like this feature.

The ability to write your own programs using the Wordze API. Pretty useful feature for any coders out there. This allows you to literally create your own features & display the Wordze data in ways that you’d like to see it.

And finally, there is a keyword mispelling tool. Many people often overlook the value of optimising pages for mispelt keywords. For example the tool shows that the top mispelling for Britney Spears is Brittney Spears or the top mispelling for American Idol is Amercian Idol. Mispellings are MUCH easier to rank for & can also be very profitable. Check out this post on Levi’s Blog about Superstar Keywords for some more insights.

Pricing

Wordze is currently priced as follows:

1 Day Trial: $7.95

Monthly Subscription: $35

Wordtracker is priced at $55.18 & Keyword Discovery at $69.95 Wordze gives great value in comparison.

Thoughts

As someone who uses Keyword Research Tools on a daily basis I was instantly able to relate to how Wordze is trying to be different. Not only is the service appealing for Search Marketing Agency’s & Webmasters but many of the features are an Affiliate Marketers Dream, provided you can put the data into action.

Lets say for example Wordze helps me find a profitable mispelling niche. Something like that could easily generate in excess of $50-$500+ in a month. For me $45/month is a small price to pay for such valuable information.

Whilst Wordze is fairly new to the market I can’t help but mention a few of the things that I didn’t like about the service. I found that the accuracy of some of the data was quite a bit off when comparing the results to a few of my sites that rank #1-3 for particular keywords. That being said, all of the other tools also don’t give fully accurate results. I also noticed that there’s not much data for some niches that I focus a lot of attention on.

Also since I’m Australia based most of the data is either USA or Globally focused. I’d quite like to see more local data as most of the SEO Work I do is for Australian Companies trying to rank in Google.com.au.

I much preferred the other features over the Keyword Research Tool, but I’m sure that as time goes on & more data is collected it can only get better. There’s also no about section on the Wordze website, so if you want to get an overview of how the idea came about you can read this interview with Levi the founder.

Conclusion

Solid Product at a great price that can provide plenty of value in any affiliate marketers arsenal. Watch out Wordtracker & Keyword Discovery, Wordze’s gonna get ya

I’m back from Easter break & ready to get the ball rolling again with some new posts & ideas that will keep that money rolling in, I trust you all had a profitable Easter

So let’s get back into things. First up I’ve managed to wittle down the Blog Reviews to the last 7 of which I’ll be announcing today or tomorrow.

Secondly I thought I’d give you a little insight on how to really double your blog traffic from search engines.

On a blog there’s three types of traffic (excluding paid).

Direct Traffic: This is traffic that you get from feed subscribers & regular visitors.

Referral Traffic: The traffic that you get when you trackback, your blog is mentioned on another site or you get dugg.

Organic Traffic: The traffic that you generate from search engines.

You can manipulate each of these three traffic sources in different ways, however many people fail to do one thing in particular with their blog & that’s leverage off old posts. The focus of any blogger is to keep up to date with current affairs & stories so they can be the first to break an important piece of information & as a result leverage heavily off referral traffic & returning users.

However, what if there was a way to really bring your old posts back in style? Well now there is.

One of my main gripes & possibly the only one I ever had with wordpress was that you couldn’t set the page title (what we see between the <title> tags) independantly from the post title (the name of the post). Therefore this post would end up having the title “SEO Title Tag + Wordtracker = Goodness” which isn’t really very optimised for the Search Engines.

The rest of this post will show you how to optimise your title tags for WordPress in a way that will enable you to bring your old posts back from the dead & start generating decent traffic. Remember, if we managed to double each posts daily visitor count you’d be doubling your search engine traffic.

Here’s the process:

Installing WordPress Plugins

Grabbing a list of all the posts contained within your blog

Exporting the posts into an excel file that we can use to work on the title tags in a neat format

Research the title tags using Wordtracker’s free tool

Set the title tags in WordPress using the plugin

Sit back & measure results

So here comes the fun part, first up you need to be using wordpress for the following plugin to work:

Download the SEO Title Tag Plugin & Install it

There’s two important advantages to installing this plugin:

You can set independant title tags for pages, posts, categories & tags

You can get rid of your blog name coming before or after every post in the <title tag>

Once you’ve followed the instructions it’s time to grab a list of all the posts contained within your site. Download Xenu (which is free).

Xenu will allow you to grab a list of all the posts indexable in the search engines from your blog. To do this simply:

Goto File

Check URL

Input the URL of your Blog

Hit OK

When it’s done hit Control + T then save it on the desktop

You now have a tabbed file with all the posts from your blog. It’ll also contain other stuff in there like affiliate links, images etc so we need to clean it up.

Open up the file in Excel & just delete columns B through to M

Next highlight column A then hit Data then Sort & hit Ok.

Now go down the column & delete all the URL’s that aren’t posts.

You should now have a nice Excel file with your posts in Alphabetical format. Now name Column A (Post) & name column B (Title Tag).

You can now use this excel file to work on the title tags for all of the posts in your blog. I also like to make other columns where I can chart the increase of traffic using a particular title tag but you don’t need to do that.

Now open up the Free Keyword Suggestion Tool from wordtracker.

The aim here is to research much better title tags for your pages that will bring in traffic. So lets use this page as an example:

This page concentrates on Wordtracker, Title Tags & Increasing Traffic so I’ll get some numbers from those phrases & see if I can come up with anything else.

There’s not too much traffic for Wordtracker or Title tags & the term “Increase Blog Traffic” looks quite good. However it appears that term would be quite hard to leverage any traffic off since the top result has been featured on the front page of digg (& possibly other sites like techmeme) & also has 119 inbound links to that page alone.

Therefore I would then normally try & leverage traffic off the name of the plugin as I would assume a plugin like this would become pretty popular given what it allows you to do.

This would in turn give me a title tag such as: “SEO Title Tag for WordPress & Increasing Blog Traffic using Wordtracker” which is a good bit more seo friendly & should drive twice as much traffic, if not more than the original title.

Once I’ve decided on the title for a particular page I’ll then move onto the next page in the Excel list.

Another good reason to have a good title is for linking. If someone decides to link to your article, chances are they’ll use the title tag as the Anchor Text, so having keyword rich title tags can also help your rankings in more ways than one

I implemented this exact method less than 5 days ago & I’ve already seen a 32% increase in referrals from Search Engines.

Enjoy.

As a smart affiliate marketer & someone who utilises PPC I know that nothing really converts better than brand terms. These are terms relating to the brand of the company or the name of the product, especially if it has a part number.

The main reason is that people are already aware of the brand & have probably carried out some research already. People also trust a brand name. No Microsoft jokes please :p

For this reason I love creating PPC campaigns that focus on brand terms only & send them straight to the merchant page. Brand terms get a great CTR (Clickthrough Rate), they’re very targeted & they convert very well. This obviously depends on the product & also the landing page too.

What I’ll normally do is pick a merchant in CJ (Commission Junction) & focus on their top 50 highest revenue earning products.

I’ll set up the campaign in adwords with an adgroup for each product.

I’ll always concentrate on terms like buy & purchase, sometimes things like cheap & discount if there is a special offer on.

I’ll then try & fit detailed information in the creative that will urge them to click on it if they’re wanting to buy.

If I can get merchants that have part numbers or product numbers then I’ll definately use those keywords too. Below is a picture of a great ad that’s focusing on a Part Number:

These types of ads that are by far the most profitable for me. Using Part Numbers of things like Laptop Batteries & Car Parts then showing the price of the product & the specs it provides. You’re almost giving the customer all the info they need to buy before they even click on your ad.

Showing the price like this can prevent “curiosity clicks” of people wanting to find out what price is. Also if you are selling the product cheaper than other Sponsored Links then of course you will get the sale over them. Chances are if they don’t have the price in the ad they’ll also lose the price they paid for the “curiosity click” too.

If you keep a steady CTR then your price will drop improving your CPA even further.

The thing to remember with this type of technique is that we’re not going for volume. This is “precision.” Don’t expect hundreds of sales per day unless you have hundreds of successful products. Building up to that level takes patience & a lot of testing. The good thing however is once you get a product right, it’ll run on autopilot & not need much tweaking at all.

This is something I’ve been doing for a long time now & it’s probably by far the easiest & best way to find profitable niches on the web.

It’s so simple that you’ll kick yourself for not doing it first. Really, you will.

Sign into Adwords then click on Tools.

Next click on the Keyword Tool. Then click on the Site Related Keywords Tab.Now you need to start finding niches from sites with dynamic content. I’ve created a list of pretty Dynamic sites over the past year. These are sites ranging from things like Holidays, News, Sports, Financial, Religion, Technology, Health Insurance.

For this example I’m using Yahoo, so fire in www.yahoo.com as the site. Make sure you group the keywords by common terms & search by cost as shown below.

Now you should get a list like this:

Now I have a list of around 100 keywords that range from about $8 up to a whopping $60 Average CPC. Ouch.

Bearing in mind that a lot of the keywords on the page are very competitive you can still find some real gems if you delve a little deeper.

I now start picking the more obscure terms & fire them into Google to see what the competition is like, for example Middletown Auto Insurance, this has a competition of around 3,000 terms or so when you target the title in quotes.

The competition heats up a bit when you remove the quotes however you can still see there’s not too many people who use the actual full term “Middletown Auto Insurance.”

So you have a term that’s paying around $28 a click on the Search Network & a half decent chance to rank for it if you’re willing to put the legwork in. Obviously there are millions of other niches out there that have much much less competition. I was able to find 20 in about an hour.

Whenever I find a nice list I then fire everything into Keyword Elite to see if the keyword gets traffic. Sometimes you can find keywords with NO COMPETITION that get over 1000 searches per month.

Now I simply create a blogger blog with the keywords in the domain i.e. middletownautoinsurance.blogspot.com then I’ll make a dedicated page that’s highly relevant & gives good information about Middletown Auto Insurance.

I’ll use <a href="http://www.earnersblog.com/url/bookmarkingdemon.php"target="_new"rel="nofollow"title="Bookmarking Demon" >Bookmarking Demon & some other programs to generate enough backlinks to get the domain indexed. Then I’ll figure out how I want to monetise it.

I’ve literally set up anywhere close to 500 blogger domains within the last year using this system & it works. Finding the niches with traffic & little competition are the best way to dominate that market.

Don’t forget that you can win an SEO Audit of your site by Reviewing Earners Blog on your Blog, I’ve had about 5 sent in so far so keep em coming!

Not doing product research Properly & picking Saturated Markets

We’re all guilty of this...

We’re all guilty of this. It’s easy when doing PPC to forget about the detail & just fire as many keywords as you can into Adwords or 7search, load in 100 products & “hope for the best.”

Maybe if you’re doing blackhat stuff you can afford to be more lazy & go for volume, but whenever each click is physically costing you money you really need to be one step ahead.

Product Research should take up at least 30% of your time.

I normally plan like this:

30% Product Research

30% Keyword Research

20% Writing Creatives

20% Tweaking

For example, you log into clickbank to look for products to promote. Most people instantly go for the products that have the most Gravity. Firstly, there is a few fundamental faults with this:

The Competition is Fierce

The Product has been around for a while already

PPC Prices will probably be more than your CPA

That is the main problem when you promote a “single product.” You only have a few set paths that you can follow. Most of the Affiliate Marketers follow those paths leaving the market saturated & hard to come up with new ideas or new methods.

So what should Product Research Entail?

Research should be all about assessing the risk of a particular product verses the potential ROI (Return on Investment). They way I like to do this is by picking products then looking at the current competition.

So for example I find out in Adwords how much you would need to bid to get into the top 10 for the brand name & other variations of the brand.
So say for example I was promoting Affiliate Project X, which at the moment is so competitive it’s probably not worth the hassle.
The average person is making $33.52 per sale (which also shows there’s quite a high return rate). However to get into the top ten on Google you’re having to bid around $1.50 Per Click.

This means that you would need to get a conversion rate of about 5% just to break even at the start. This sort of analysis tells me that the market is saturated & would take a lot of time to get a steady position for a reasonable price. Bear in mind that CPC does come down over time provided you can get a good CTR (Click Through Rate).
You should also research your competitors shelf life, take a screenshot of the top 10 adwords ads for your main keyword then compare it with next week. If the ads are still there then it means that particular campaign is profitable for that webmaster. Wash Rinse & Repeat this process, you will be gaining valuable insight into proven campaigns.

Pick up & coming products in the market, I also try & focus more on brands & brand names. So for example if someone were to search for a Nixon D2X Camera Lens they are probably looking to buy one. If I can redirect them to the merchant page for that product I have a high chance of getting a sale. Moreso than redirecting someone who is searching for Affiliate Marketing to the Affiliate Project X sales page.

If anyone else has any interesting methods they use for research just drop a comment, I can think of hundreds more but I want to get you guys thinking outside the box for yourselves

This is where it starts to get fun! Different topics monetize differently, i.e. it’s easier to monetize a site about Mobile Phones than a site about Saving the Rainforest. It’s easier to rank on Google with a website about Seattle Graffiti Artists than Home Insurance Loans (as that is a HIGHLY competitive industry). This is where we need to do some research into various topics. Generally if you can get a website up quickly about a new product or idea, if that product makes it big then your site should get a lot of traffic.

Researching can be fun, you can come across topics you never thought were so popular, write them down for future projects.
Research is based around Keywords. Keywords are the most important part of creating a website. They are the words that identify your site & also that people will search to find your site. I use Digital Point’s Keyword Suggestion Tool for all my keyword research, as well as a few other programs that I’ll talk about later in the series.

Use the tool to research the niche or area that you want to create your website on. Research is vital.

You can use it to see how competitive the market is, how often terms are searched for & also it can help give you some insight into keywords you might not have thought about using.

Example of Highly Competitive & Hard to Rank for Terms:

Viagra
Home Loans
House Insurance
Gambling
Online Casino
Bad Debt

Example of Less Competitive & Easier to Rank for Terms:

Viagra for Midgets
Home Loans for the over 60’s
Surfing School in California
Gambling Advice in Kentucky
Australian Idol Final Results

Can you see a pattern emerging? Yep shorter keywords are generally harder to rank for so that’s why we choose strings of keywords. However do not be totally put off single or double keywords as there ARE ones out there that you can rank well for, you just need to get lucky.

Unfortunately I can’t tell you what topic to write about, otherwise everyone that reads Earners Blog will try the same thing (SEO Contest anyone? :p). The sooner that you learn the importance of Keywords & ranking highly for a competitive highly searched keyword then you are on your way to creating a website that will attract visitors.
