I’m going to share with you a small secret that will help you triple your profits on landing pages in three different ways. This technique works best with product reviews, but I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it work with your niche.

Capturing Data

This technique works by capturing the customers data before you send them on to the purchase/presell page of the product that you’re reviewing. By far the easiest way to do this is to offer them a bonus download (worth $50 – $100) that is related to the product in question.

Here’s a brief example I found that uses this technique with Ebooks:

Redirecting the User

As soon as the user types in their name & email address you can use an input type in the form code to redirect them to the landing page of the product you’re reviewing. This redirect is normally used to send someone to a thankyou page:

[coolcode]
[/coolcode]

This will then give the user the option to buy the original product & an email offering the downloadable product will be in their inbox (they’ll also be subscribed to your list).

If you get the free download right it can have a massive influence on the chance of a conversion for the main product.

Choosing a Bonus Product

I’ll always try to choose something that relates as closely as possible to the main product. If you’re doing a review of Aweber & want to capture addresses then you might give away a free 30,000 opt-in mailing list (which of course would be useless to them without an email marketing product such as aweber). That’s just an example but you get the idea.

Profiting

So you now have the ability to profit 3 times from this scenario:

Main Product: If your review is good & your bonus product fits you’ll hopefully convert here easily.
Bonus Product: If you have time on your hands it’s possible to use the bonus product to generate profit. Write an ebook or guide on using Aweber (or whichever product you’re promoting) & give it away free (packed full of your affiliate links of course). Don’t forget to also add any complimentary products to the bonus too (like Web Hosting or WordPress Templates etc). This also acts as a safety buffer, if the person decides not to buy the main product now, they may read the bonus product & buy from there.
Mailing List: You also now have an active member of your mailing list that you can provide newsletters, tips & tricks or more product reviews to. This is invaluable, without it, that person would be gone forever & you’d probably have little chance of ever selling to them again.

I normally find that the amount I post is inversely proportional to the amount of money I make therefore when I’m onto something good you might find things quiet around here. Either way, on with the show.

This post is in relation to a question I had a few weeks ago (feel free to ask questions here):

Stuart, I have a website that gets around 3,000 uniques per day (in the celebrity space) but I can’t seem to make more than $6 per day from Adsense. What advice can you give on increasing this?

So lets assume you already have a celebrity site getting a decent amount of traffic (anywhere from 1k+ visitors per day), if you don’t then check out some of my earlier posts on affiliate link building & the 2008 link building guide.

Celebrities can be a tough to crack, but you just have to persist:

• There’s plenty of niches to pick, I’m not going to go into details but there’s hundreds if not thousands
• Traffic is HUGE, millions of people unfortunately lead boring lives & need their celebrity fix. So you’ll be focusing purely on volume here then figuring out testing the best way to monetise it.
• These sites are usually littered with ads, so in other words, they also can’t make enough money from just adsense. We need to be smart about monetisation.

Bread & Butter Monetisation Networks

Celebrity Sites are notorious for offering up low CPC’s with Adsense, there’s a few quick methods to increase your income:

Adsense: I normally run with a 728×90 Adsense above the fold, this is tried & tested for me as being the optimum spot for clickthroughs. I’ve recently been playing with YieldBuild, which automatically tests & rotates combinations of ad sizes & colours then continually tries to optimise for the best eCPM. I’ve seen a 25%-30% increase in about 30 days.

You could also go through & filter out the MFA ads but I’ve not had much luck with that.

Value Click Media: I average about $110 on around 420k Pageviews for one site with Value Click CPM advertising. Not the best, but it’s an addition to Adsense.

Right Media: I also run Right Media & let advertisers fight for my ad space, this generates decent returns but since my overall income is split between 4-5 advertisers I end up getting 4-5 US Cheques (I’m in Australia) which cost me $10 each to cash. Bit of a pain but it’s another income stream.

Zango Cash: This isn’t something I’ve exclusively had time to trial but I’ve had reports from at least 4 or 5 contacts that are making some decent bank from the Javascript Overlay on Celebrity Sites. I wouldn’t plan on using this if you don’t want to annoy your visitors, if you don’t care then you’ll make some decent money here.

Ideal monthly income breakdown by Network:

1. Adsense: $300-$600+
2. Valueclick: $150+
3. Right Media: $200+
4. Zango: $300-2k+

Others to consider: Tribalfusion, Fastclick, Clicksor & Adbrite (Interstitials)

Use your Analytics to Profit / Understanding your Visitors

I can’t stress enough that making money with these types of sites isn’t about slapping up the banner advertising above & moving onto the next project. Always check your analytics on a daily/weekly basis.

An example of this may be:

You notice that a particular page dedicated to Megan Fox is getting a significant amount of traffic this week from a movie website all drooling over her pictures. Do you A, sit back & watch the Adsense dollars trickle in or B try to find an offer that appeals to fans of Megan Fox, it may be the transformers DVD or it might even be a Megan Fox Poster?

Either way you get the idea here, you can target individual pages with different offers depending on where you’re getting the traction. There’s no point setting up a niche offer on every page until you see the traffic come in.

User Interaction

Interaction is key to monetisation. Ask yourself this question:

Once a visitor leaves your site are they ever going to come back?

If the answer is no then we need to find a why to bring them back over & over again. This can be done in a number of ways:

• Email List: Creating an email list that mails people when you update the website. The hard part about this is getting people on the list in the first place, try offering an incentive like a competition or a free giveaway.
• Forum: Everyone loves a forum, this is by far & away the best way to keep people coming back again & again.
• Social Features: Allow interaction with content & users.

Expand your Network

Are you dominating this niche as much as you can? or are you simply moving onto the next one without first capitalising what you have? Remember, it’s easier to grow what you already have than it is to grow something from scratch.

Think carefully around potential partnerships with similar sites & also unique advertising deals that (if you’re the leader in the niche) no one else can provide.

Research!

How are the other Celebrity websites out there making bank? I normally like to check out the Sitepoint Marketplace to see actual revenue figures & where that revenue is coming from. I’ve seen some bloody ingenious revenue generating schemes/ideas on here so that’s my hot tip for the month.

I’ve been hit with around a 50% drop in eCPM. I mostly use Adsense to fund a small chunk of my PPC, so I’m glad I don’t rely too heavily to it, however I know plenty of people that have quit their jobs & live 100% on Adsense earnings (ouch).

There’s been a few theories thrown around that thread as to the cause of the drop in earnings:

• The recent Ad changes that reduced the clickable area (I highly doubt this would have decreased the EPC though)
• Advertisers reducing budgets (I would have thought people would be spending MORE coming up to Xmas?)
• Adsense becoming saturated with too many Publishers? (This doesn’t explain the rather sudden drop in eCPM)
• Some have speculated that it’s an Adsense Algo Update (Funny how this always seems to happen around the Stock Holder meetings? )

I do a lot with the Ebay Affiliate Program & I firmly believe that it’s one of the easiest Affiliate Programs out there to get started with. Think of almost anything out there to sell, any niche & you’ll more than likely find it on Ebay. Instead of high competition on saturated offers in Affiliate Networks you can have free reign over certain niches.

Payment for earnings using CJ is a bit slower though, so until you build up a decent network of sites it may take a few months to get paid, however since Auctionads pays right at the end of the month for that months earnings, it gives newer publishers a headstart on those that are using CJ. I’m also a big fan of the Paypal payment, which is sent from a Paypal account (so you pay no fees) unlike such networks as Clixgalore (where you pay a 3% fee because they pay via Credit Card).

So here’s what happened after I introduced it onto a few sites, initially things were promising but then took quite a nosedive for two months due to click reporting & ad delivery problems:

1. Revenue was great in June (< $1,000)
2. Half of June’s numbers in July (> $1,000)
3. Half of that again in August (> $200)
4. September beat July’s number & things started improving again ( > $1,000)
5. October, well this month isn’t quite over yet but I thought I’d post a quick screenshot:

You can clearly see the click reporting problem on the above screenshot, but the revenue is now outperforming a few of my other programs such as Adsense & Amazon (Ebay’s 30 Day Cookie verus the Amazon 24 Hour Cookie really helps here). All this revenue is from Organic traffic no PPC whatsoever, so it’s all profit.

What kind of sites do I have it on: Most of the sites are in the Entertainment category & I serve ads for Digital stuff like the Wii & Digital Cameras etc. Using CJ I’ve had awesome success with niche sites that sell high demand products (products that people will sign up to ebay just to buy, like trading cards & concert tickets).

There have been a few main issues with Auctionads over the past few months which I thought I’d also outline:

Downtime: As we’ve seen with other networks such as Blog Rush (which I refuse to even use), creators often aren’t prepared for the success that can happen overnight. This leadto serving problems with the ads & downtime = less earnings.

Irrelevant Ads Showing: For some strange reason this weird bug happened every Sunday without fail (perhaps Ebay do soemthing strange on Sunday, who knows). This also meant that you’d be showing ads for Car Parts on a page that you’d originally targeted trading card ads on = less earnings.

Inaccurate Click Reporting: This is still an issue that hasn’t been resolved, whilst the earnings are back on track some days I’m still showing 20-30 clicks a day when in June I was seeing 200-300+ per day = frustration & innacurate CTR stopping you from optimising your ads to their full potential = less earnings.

Referral Reporting: I’m still unable to really determine how much of these earning are contributed to via Referrals, it could be a lot, it might not be. I’ve yet to have any replies regarding this issue.

Ebay’s 30 day Cookie really seals the deal for me. Especially coming up to the Christmas period if someone clicks through on your ad then decides to buy all their Christmas presents on Ebay then you still make the bank on the transactions. Let’s see something like Widgetbucks compete with that?

Here’s a list of some simple tips & tricks you can use to add to your income. One thing I always stress is DIVERSIFY your income streams. Then learn to increase each channel bit by bit. These tips should help you at least double your Textlinkads income, if not more.1. Work on backlinks to increase the Pagerank of your blog, Pagerank greatly increases the”value” of your link. It’ll also attract more buyers & help you rank better if they “Sort by Link Popularity.”

2. Increase traffic to reduce your alexa rank, blogs with lower alexa ranks tend to sell more links since you can “Sort by Alexa” in Textlinkads.

3. Place your Textlinkads above the fold, you earn more money per link if they are well placed.

4. Utilise Subdomains where possible, subdomains are classified as a seperate domain so you can sell seperate textlinkads on each subdomain. For example if all my categories in Earners Blog were subdomains technically I could have 25 Different listings in Textlinkads & potentially pull in 25x more revenue.

5. Ask the guys at textlinkads to increase the price of your link if you’re not happy with the automatic pricing system. This is something most Publishers fail to do. I know I wouldn’t be happy selling a link at $15, hell it’s not worth my while.

6. Make sure they categorise your site in the appropiate Category. Otherwise you won’t get found. Increasing your price also increases your chances of selling a link whilst people are browsing by category. Drop an email to them if you need to change your category.

7. Promote the Textlinkads Affiliate Program on your site, encourage anyone to give it a try. You get $25 per referral.

8. Do the double whammy, tell people you’re giving away free textlinks on your site & get them to sign up via your affiliate link. You’re getting the $25 for the referral, they’re buying the link for free & you’re getting the revenue from the link purchase. Everyone’s happy.

9. Have a dedicated advertising page outlining the various advertising solutions you provide on your website.

10. Have the textlinkads in a prominent place. If you situate them well more people are likely to purchase them. I know I’d rather purchase a link that was in the top right rather than below the footer.

Then finally due to the large number of pages, my posts are taking much longer to make the main index because the Google Spiders are busy chewing up all the japanese or italian content that makes no sense.

Don’t get me wrong, I did see a traffic increase of about 200% & I did see an increase in revenue but I think I’ve reached the point now where I’m over it & I want all my main posts in the main index again.

Anyway, since I removed the plugin it’s going to leave me with a heap of pages that don’t exist anymore. This means anyone visiting one of the indexed pages will get thrown a 404 error. I’m going to talk briefly about how you can actually take advantage of these 404′s & generate a bit of extra revenue.

A 404 is an error page that gets shown when a page doesn’t exist. A 403 is similar except it shows up when you don’t have permission to view a certain page or part of a site. MOST people don’t take advantage of these error pages as an additional source of income. This post is going to show you how you can.

Firstly you need to create a 404 page. This can be any of static html page. If you’re using wordpress you’ll notice a file called 404.php in wp-content/themes/default/. That’s your 404 error page.

Simply fill that with any content that you wish, Adsense, other offers, & whenever an error is shown the visitor will get shown that page & potentially earn you some revenue. Placing Adsense on 404 pages used be against the TOS but you’re allowed to now If you are concerned just pop them an email for clarification.

Whilst the above is a fairly simple method you can also add rules in your .htaccess file in the root of your domain to redirect to wherever you wish.

For example I can redirect 403′s & 404′s to to agloco if I wish by using the following statements:

ErrorDocument 403 http://www.earnersblog.com/url/agloco.php

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.earnersblog.com/url/agloco.php

Now anyone that gets either of those errors is redirected to Agloco & potentially could sign up, how cool would it be getting a signup from someone who was potentially trying a view a part of your site they weren’t supposed to be? The more targeted you are with your redirecting the more conversions you’ll also be able to achieve. I’ll be touching more on this in a later post.

If you didn’t want to monetize the visitor & would prefer to redirect them to the homepage or perhaps your feed signup page you could do that too with the above statements.

Guy’s blog is the 45th most popular blog on the internet. And he’s only earning over $3,000 per year with Adsense?

I think the main problem is that adsense is just too easy. People just slap it up on their blog & don’t really look at Affiliates or other revenue streams that are

1. More targeted
2. Have Higher Payouts
3. Look less Ugly

I personally am trying to move away from adsense altogether on all of my sites.

This really doesn’t give Bloggers much hope does it?

But WAIT! this is just direct revenues from the website.

What we’re not told about are the indirect revenues that Guy makes from all the Seminars, Speeches & Consultancy. This is where the real money is to be made. Blogs are perfect for attracting this sort of consultancy work. Chances are, if you have a high traffic blog you’ll be receiving offers left right & center for partnerships & knowledge.

So whilst Guy may not be raking it in from Adsense, he sure is possibly raking the cash in elsewhere. One thing to note also is this:

I can’t even see Adsense on Guy’s Blog anymore. Perhaps revealing his income has now swayed some Direct Advertisers to sign him up for more than Google are paying?

Gotta love the Advertising World

UPDATE: I’m not saying in this post that Adsense is worthless. I make more than Guy does, with way less traffic. What I’m getting at here is that if Adsense works for you then that’s awesome. But there’s far bigger things once you get past the need for Adsense. It’s only the beginning

The new system comes brandished with a new name (AGLOCO) & a shiny new concept. The founders knew that the system had failed before & now they think the timing is right to, as they say, own the internet & you can do exactly just that.

UPDATE: Since writing this review agloco has gome completely huge. They’ve recruited over 100,000 members & growing. If you want to make money from this I suggest you get in EARLY & join agloco now.

It won’t cost you anything, you will get paid for surfing the internet like you normally do & if you don’t like it, then you don’t have to continue using it. Simple as that.

I personally think the system is destined for big things & explain a little bit about the concept now.

You install the viewbar in your browser & instead of getting paid a flat flat per hour like the old system you earn a percentage of what the viewbar earns. A percentage of this goes to AGLOCO (10%), and you get the rest in Cash & also shares in the company. So there is a possibility that if you get a nice amount of shares & the company explodes that you can make serious cash from this. The advantage of them using a system like this is that it’s impossible for them to crash like they did before & pay out TOO MUCH money.

But wait, it doesn’t stop there. The real money is to be made from referring your friends & other surfers. Think of it as Network Marketing.

So the concept works like this. AGLOCO will pay you to surf the web, up to 5 hours a month at the moment (this could increase), you can also disable the view bar once you’ve reached the limit. However, the earning doesn’t stop there. You also get paid for up to 5 hours of everyone that you’ve referred up to 4 levels deep.

So whereas at the start you may be thinking, damn I’m only getting paid for 5 hours a month, this is not the case. If you refer 10 people & they each refer another 5 the earnings could look something like this:

Almost $10,000 for one month! Nice. So if I refer 10 people & each of those people refers 5 more up to 4 levels deep the earnings could amount to quite a tasty package.

One thing to remember though that some of this will consist of stocks within the company, so depending on what the company floats at will determine how many shares you own

So it looks like this time round Alladvantage might have gotten it right, I mean why wouldn’t you jump on this awesome opportunity to make some cash? I know that I surf 5 hours on the net without even thinking about it & I’m sure a good number of my friends do too.

I’ve referred over 150 people to the system so far, but in order to really make this work you need to get referring now. If you don’t the market is going to become saturated & you’ll earn nothing. So what are you waiting for?

Goes to show that I can be done, you just need a good idea & a blog like this to show you how to monetize it & Hopefully with the information on Earners Blog some of you guys can do the same.

Textlinkads: This has been a consistent earner for me on a few of my other blogs & sites. If you refer someone who signs up & puts the textlinkads code on their website you get an instant $25. Easy.

Adbrite: Adbrite is a contextual advertising service, similar to Adsense. However it allows you to sell spots on your site on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. They have a referral service that pays 50% of Adbrite’s Profits for the first 3 months, then 10% for the next 9 months. This can be quite lucrative if you refer some big advertisers.

Azoogleads: One of the top CPA Affiliate Marketing companies around at the moment, they will pay you 2% of what they earn for life. So if they earn $2,000 a month you’ll get $40 etc

Casinoblasters: This has been a real consistent Earner for me over the years, the casino affiliate program of the Golden Palace Online Casinos. They pay up to $200 CPA per referred user or you can choose to make 40% of the revenue earned. Which is huge. If you can get a few consistent high rollers to sign up through your affiliate link that’ll pay the mortgage :p

Adult Friend Finder: This affiliate program has some of the best conversions I’ve ever witnessed. Who said sex doesn’t sell eh? If you run an entertainment type site or a site with lots of male visitors then this should definately be looked at. They run a few different revenue models, pay per click, revenue share & per order.

Amazon Associates: Amazon runs an Affiliate Program that allows you to act as a reseller of all their goods & products. They pay 4% flat fee on the sale price of the product. If you refer more than 21 items, that goes up to 6% & it keeps going up the more items you refer. It finally caps out at 8.50%. Awesome affiliate program to use for just about anything, Book Reviews, Technology, Electronics, Games etc

I plan on making individual pages for all the affiliate programs I use over the next few weeks that will give you more detail that I just have in this most. C) You’re getting a lot of MFA (Made for Adsense) Ads on your site

Lets concentrate on C for now. Firstly, how do you know if you’re getting lots of these types of ads on your site. Install the Adsense Preview Tool which will allow you to preview the ads showing on your site.

The reason for low paying clicks is called Adsense Arbitrage. Webmasters bid low amounts on every keyword possible, they then redirect the user to another page where they are displaying higher earning ads. So for example say they get a particular keyword for $0.01 but they redirect the user to a page where they’re making $0.40 per click. That’s a markup of $0.39.

There is a way to filter out these types of sites. You can use the tool to visit them & see for yourself if it’s just a page full of ads. You can also visit Adsblacklist and use their constantly updated list of MFA Sites.

You should notice a considerable increase in your EPC (Earnings Per Click) when list is applied to your Adsense Filter List (Which is found in the Adsense Setup part of your Account).

There are two basic principles for making money:

1. You can sell your own products online
2. You can sell other peoples products online

Most people opt of the latter of the two options & this is what I will mostly be concentrating on explaining. The reason for this is because most people who start out trying to Earn Money Online do so in their spare time & then once they reach the point where they’re making more than their normal job then they will move into it on a full time basis. After all, it doesn’t make sense to quit your day job & try to do this full time without really knowing what you’re doing…..

Once you reach Full Time status you may then want to start developing your own products or ideas, many people do go down this route as it ‘cuts out the middleman’ so to speak. I will also be giving advice for people who have already started their own product range in this blog also so don’t feel left out at all

Over the next few posts we’ll have a look at the various methods of Affiliate Marketing. This is in essence a way of marketing other peoples products and services for them, but taking a cut whenever you generate a sale.

This can happen in various different forms, you can recommend products, you can talk about them in your blog, you can create search engine campaigns to target certain products or you can simply create a site about something that you love, perhaps a hobby; then promote products related to that hobby. There are literally Millions of combinations to explore and this is what’s so exciting about making money on the internet, there are paths you can take that no-one else is doing, you can look & research what other people are doing then improve upon it, the limits are endless. One thing is for certain & I must stress this. Think of this as a rule to swear by:

If you create a profitable campaign DO NOT go around telling people about it, posting about it in forums or chatrooms. PEOPLE WILL COPY YOU, it’s unfortunate & it does happen.

OK now that we’ve learnt the eternal rule of thumb lets start by learning about the different types of Affiliate Marketing. I’ll address this in my next post so don’t go anywhere!
