The book itself isn’t written by Chris Mcneely but by Alex Goad of Net Frontier Marketing. I know Alex reads the blog here so I’m sure he won’t mind the criticism

Firstly I’d like to say how laughable it is that so many affiliates are willing to jump onto a product so quickly without really reading it first. Just have a look at the Google serps for Project Black Mask.

Secondly I find it very interesting that so many people are now willing to drop all morale issues & promote a Black Hat book. I’m not saying that Black Hat SEO is a bad thing, but what they don’t mention on the sales page is that Black Hat SEO:

1. Will get your websites Banned eventually, unless you prepare properly
2. Could get your Adsense Account banned
3. Could get your affiliate account suspended
4. That the techniques are almost a year out of date & don’t work anymore unless you have some serious mass & automation.

I’ve read the book, it contains useful information like some stuff about Parasite hosting but it is not revolutionary & is not something that will help you earn $12,000 overnight.

If you trawl through blackhat forums like Simplified SEC you’ll see that the guys without automation & mass are losing the battle to build sites that rank quick enough. It’s not just as simple as throwing up 150,000 pages & waiting for the cash to come in, you need to give that site enough link juice so that 99% of it isn’t supplemental, you have to figure out how to do that without tripping the Google Filters. In fact, many Black Hat’s aren’t using these tactics anymore. Just look at the serps for things like buy xanax. THIS is where the serious cash is. Aged domains with a lot of authority ranking for high grossing products like viagra, xanax, levitra etc.

So before you throw your money at this book wanting another pipe dream just remember that these books thrive on the hype the Affiliates create for them, regardless of whether the book will help you achieve that hype is another story.

Whilst the book does have good content, it’s nothing new & nothing you can’t find out by either reading my blog or somewhere like wickedfire.

At this time it’s hard for me to tell how effective the linking is however I can report that:

1. One of my site has moved from position 5 to position 2 for the keyword I was targeting (After 1 Round of Comment Hut)
2. My other site has moved from Position 13 to Position 6 for the keyword I was targeting.
3. One site has emerged from a -100 penalty that it’s had for the last 3 months.
4. One blog went from all supplemental to 30% Supplemental.

I can’t attribute the findings above to Comment Hut 100%, I’m just giving you an idea of what I’ve noticed in the short period of time I’ve tried it. This could be due to general fluctuations or data pushes.

Also there’s the added bonus of Spiders indexing your newer sites much quicker & also Page Rank. I can’t really gauge if it’s had any effect on Page Rank but I can tell you that I’ve managed to get a brand new site fully indexed in 3 days (58 pages) with just comments (however I’m not sure how this looks in terms of trust in the eyes of Google).
I’ll give you a quick run down of what the software does:

It trawls the internet & looks for blogs that are relevant to your particular keyword. It looks at a number of different platforms:

1. WordPress
2. WordPress.com
3. Drupal
4. Live Journal
5. Typepad

It then sorts all the results in order of Page Rank. You can then visit the pages & leave comments that include your URL. If the page has a nofollow active on it may mean it’s useless to Google. But Yahoo & MSN still count it as a link. You’ll find many blogs that don’t use nofollow. I was able to find a PR7 & 2 PR6′s with a scan of one keyword.

I found the software easy to use & effective. Not cluttered with useless features. It gets straight to the point & does exactly what you want or need it to do. It does take about 30mins+ to collect data from ALL the sources, however for one keyword you may have over 150+ PR4+ blogs to feast on.

There are however a number of features I’d like to see in the future:

1. The ability to check blogs for the rel=nofollow tag & filter them accordingly
2. Check blogger.com blogs also
3. I found that many of the blogs weren’t relevant to the keyword, they keyword only appeared in the body text. I’d like to see more relevant results with the keyword included in the title
4. A mass delete function. Currently you can only delete all the results once you’ve exported to file.
5. More accurate results, sometimes it brings up categories instead of actual posts (which you can’t obviously post to).
6. I’m interested to know where it scrapes the results from, if so it’d be good to see it pull from different sources like Google Blog Search & Technorati.
7. Auto Commenting, although I quite like making my comments very personal to the blog & the topic.

Comment Hut is a good tool for a number of reasons:

1. You can deep link to pages with any anchor text you want.
2. You can use it to Boost PR so you can sell text links.
3. It can be a good networking tool to find blogs relevant to yours.
4. Can help new sites get spidered quickly & build up initial trust.

If you want to check Comment Hut out they do a trial version that’s limited to WordPress Blogs only. Would definately be an even more awesome tool if they managed to incorporate the features I talked about above.
