Feedburner Textlinkads Feedflare monetisation trick

I was browsing through my own feed today (narcissistic some may say :p) & noticed that I was using the lovely Feedflare widgets from Feedburner at the bottom of each post.

These basically allow you to digg, comment, bookmark or even email a particular post whilst inside the feed. Quite clever really.

They look something like this:

Whenever you log into Feedburner you are able to customise these Feedflares by clicking on Optimise, Feedflare.

However, I also noticed that you can add your own personalised Feedflare links, widgets or tags. Check this picture below:

This essentially allows you to put anything you want at the bottom of your feed posts. You could:

Add Affiliate Links
Sell Advertising
Make a Bumpzee Widget
And so on….

So I thought I’d share with you guys the code to add something like your Textlinkads referral code to the bottom of each post:

Simply download this xml file then edit the source & replace it with your own Textlinkads referral code. If you’ve not joined textlinkads yet then you can sign up by following the link on this page.

Now upload the XML file to your server then log into the Feedflare system & give it the URL. You will now have a nice shiny Textlinkads link at the bottom of all your posts in your feed

Naturally this has many more applications that you can all earn a few extra bucks with. Enjoy.

Find almost any kind of Ebook or File Online

Here’s a quick tip that I use to find almost anything online. I mostly use it for books & reading material for projects however it can be expanded to look for anything.

So for example lets see if we can find a few ebooks:

Google Images frame removal Trick

Thanks to this thread @ Wickedfire & Eli’s Post I learned a few new tricks about Google Images.

I get quite a lot of traffic to a few sites from Google Images & obviously the frame messes with Adsense Targeting & reduces revenue.

Using this code on your page you can remove the frame altogether & increase revenue

Quick Adsense Tip #1: More Relevant Ads with Shorter Permalinks

Quite a number of you have emailed me asking for some Quick Adsense Tips to go inline with the Adwords ones so why not!

I’m in the process of cleaning up my sidebar & putting more “clear defined” categories so this first tip ties in with that just nicely.

I find that with adsense if I use too strings in posts that are too long the Adsense ads can get quite a bit off target. I recently just used this plugin to migrate to shorter permalinks.

Originally I had the structure:

/%category%/%postname%/

However when using multiple categories the urls were becoming quite long & adsense was getting confused.

I’ve now migrated to merely:

/%postname%/

This has greatly increased the targeting of the Adsense ads & increased ctr by over 2% on some blogs.

Another handy feature of using the short permalinks is that I can now rearrange my whole sidebar & categories without making posts go 404 since the category name isn’t in the url anymore.

Quick Adwords Tip #2: Quality not Quantity

When setting up an adwords campaign it’s easy to get click happy & add heaps of keywords into an Ad Group.

One of the biggest ways to not only keep costs down but also track the progress of the campaign is to keep Adgroups highly targeted. Relevance is everything.

Quite often my adgroups contain very highly targeted keywords. I might only have anywhere between 5-25 keywords in one adgroup.

For example, the campaign is Playstation 3, the Adgroup is Playstation 3 Controllers, Keywords are:

“Buy Playstation 3 Controller”
“Buy Wireless Playstation 3 Controller”
“additional playstation 3 controller”
“cheap playstation 3 controller”
“buy ps3 controller”
“cheap ps3 controller”

Buy playstation 3 controller might convert 1 in 4, however playstation 3 controller might only convert 1 in 30

The advantages of keeping it so targeted are as follows:

It’s easier to keep track of bids & adjustments.
It’s easier to see which keywords are performing & which are not.
You can have targeted landing pages for each adgroup.
You increase the relevancy of each adgroup & the ctr because you’re using very targeted keywords.
You decrease your average CPC.

Conclusion

Spending that extra time really structuring your Adwords Campaigns can really save you a huge amount of time, frustration & money in the long run.

Sneaky Way to get Cheap Text Links

So I was evaluating the backlinks of a few websites the other day that rank really well, I mean REALLY well for some very very targeted terms & I came across a few things of interest.

Nearly Every Link to the website (over 450) had some really really targeted Anchor Text.

I instantly thought to myself “Wow, these guys are really solid linkbuilders”

I had a look at a half a dozen of the sites they had links on & all the sites contained Web Counters with the targeted keyword phrase underneath the counter. Hmmmmm…..

Then I delved a bit deeper & came across this site: Counter Data

Whilst on the surface it may appear to be another Free Web Counter website they actually are doing some really ingenious stuff with the advertising side of things.

Notice how the demo counter at the top has the word “Sponsor” underneath it? Well the counter script that you put on your site allows anyone to sponsor that particular counter.

Prices run from $10 to $20 per counter & you can choose whatever anchor text you want. So my guess is that if you approach these guys with say $5000 you’ll get a ton of really really cheap links.

How long this tactic will actually remain around for & how long before these types of links are devalued who knows. What I do know is that this tactic currently works, I’ve seen some sites rank purely on these links alone.

The main problem with relying purely on bought links like this is, what happens when Google finally devalues or debunks this method? Or what happens if they decide to penalise the site who’s buying the links as well as devalue the link? This is something that we cannot predict so buyer beware

Quick Adwords Tip #1

With the new quality score updates rolled out I can appreciate that now some campaigns are becoming less profitable, so I thought I’d post a few tips now & again to help you guys keep on top of things. So here’s #1.

If you’re using exact matching on a keyword & you’re averaging a 5% CTR constantly then you can lower your bid by 1c everyday & still keep your position. So if you’re bidding $0.30 to start after 15 days you will be bidding $0.15 & still keep the position.

Advantages of this is that you can half your running costs on some keywords & make them twice as profitable

Trick to Increase your Technorati Rank

Yesterday my Technorati rank was around 40,000, today it’s hovering at about 4,100. So how did I manage to increase 35,000 positions in just one day?

Simple really. Potentially you have way more links out there than technorati gives you credit for. This probably goes for a lot of the guys that are in the top 100 aswell.

I used Xenu to fully spider & grab all the URL’s from sites I knew had a Sitewide link to Earners Blog. I loaded all the URL’s into a text file & got rid of any externals. I then loaded the full list into the pinging tool that comes with Blogger Generator, fire the technorati ping server into it:

http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping

Then just let it run on the entire list.

This technique increased my link count from 888 to 3,100 within the space of around 60 minutes.

Why’s this important?

Well, whilst having a high technorati rank isn’t overly important, it can help increase your value in Textlinkads & Reviewme. But for people who are struggling to just hit the top 100 in technorati this technique has the ability to really give them the needed boost to get right up there & compete with the “top blogs” out there.

1c Clicks from Google Adwords for Arbitrage

Getting cheap clicks from Adwords can be frustrating sometimes. This particular method was revealed in Wickedfire last week but it’s something a lot of us have been doing for a while.

It’s so simple it’s not funny.

If you’re advertising a product go into Photoshop & make a 728×90 Banner & a 468×60 Banner. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but make it as appealing to click as possible.

For example:

Then just fire up all your keywords & create Image Ads instead of Text Ads. Now import as many keywords as you can into Adwords & set them all at $0.01 CPC. Don’t worry about it saying they’re inactive for search, it’s the content network we’re worried about here.

You should now find yourself getting heaps & heaps of cheap clicks to your Arbitrage Sites which you can then either convert into affiliate sales or monetize with Adsense. If not you can also use it as a nice cheap branding exercise for your new site. Happy Photoshopping

10 Easy Ways to Increase your Textlinkads Income

However, many webmasters get put off from Textlinkads because they’re not selling any links or they’re not making enough from the link they are selling.

Here’s a list of some simple tips & tricks you can use to add to your income. One thing I always stress is DIVERSIFY your income streams. Then learn to increase each channel bit by bit. These tips should help you at least double your Textlinkads income, if not more.1. Work on backlinks to increase the Pagerank of your blog, Pagerank greatly increases the”value” of your link. It’ll also attract more buyers & help you rank better if they “Sort by Link Popularity.”

2. Increase traffic to reduce your alexa rank, blogs with lower alexa ranks tend to sell more links since you can “Sort by Alexa” in Textlinkads.

3. Place your Textlinkads above the fold, you earn more money per link if they are well placed.

4. Utilise Subdomains where possible, subdomains are classified as a seperate domain so you can sell seperate textlinkads on each subdomain. For example if all my categories in Earners Blog were subdomains technically I could have 25 Different listings in Textlinkads & potentially pull in 25x more revenue.

5. Ask the guys at textlinkads to increase the price of your link if you’re not happy with the automatic pricing system. This is something most Publishers fail to do. I know I wouldn’t be happy selling a link at $15, hell it’s not worth my while.

6. Make sure they categorise your site in the appropiate Category. Otherwise you won’t get found. Increasing your price also increases your chances of selling a link whilst people are browsing by category. Drop an email to them if you need to change your category.

7. Promote the Textlinkads Affiliate Program on your site, encourage anyone to give it a try. You get $25 per referral.

8. Do the double whammy, tell people you’re giving away free textlinks on your site & get them to sign up via your affiliate link. You’re getting the $25 for the referral, they’re buying the link for free & you’re getting the revenue from the link purchase. Everyone’s happy.

9. Have a dedicated advertising page outlining the various advertising solutions you provide on your website.

10. Have the textlinkads in a prominent place. If you situate them well more people are likely to purchase them. I know I’d rather purchase a link that was in the top right rather than below the footer.

Using RSS Feeds for Incoming Links

Getting Search Engine Spiders to your most recent content is always a priority for most webmasters. Sometimes even getting the spiders to update your new content at all can take time when you have a new website. Here’s a tip for newer sites that should get the spiders going crazy & eating your content up.

There are a number of sites that aggregate your RSS feed & turn it into a static HTML page. This means you can submit your feed & the spiders will be able to find & follow those links.

Advantages include:

The link has the anchor text of your title
You can have upwards of 10 links on some pages
Title of the page can be chosen, or can be the title of your blog

Here’s an example of what i’m talking about on Feedburner:

Because I show the 30 most recent posts in my feed I get 30 links back to Earners Blog. I’m pretty sure Feedburner redirects now but the spiders still follow.

Here’s a list of other sites that allow you to use a facility like this:

Most of these services will require a backlink to the page with the RSS feeds so they initally get indexed by Google. Usually I open up a del.icio.us account & import all the RSS feeds then ping them from there. You should notice a nice increase in backlinks & spider activity after using this technique. Enjoy.

7 Tips for Infiltrating another Blogs Readership

So you’ve carved out a niche in your market, built a solid readership but you’ve reached a plateau in the amount of Feed Subscribers & Traffic that you’re generating. What’s next? Well, if you feel that your content is good enough to stand the test now’s the time to infiltrate other blogs & persaude their readers to join your party

There’s a number of ways to do this, please be considerate towards other bloggers though you don’t want to piss them off. Especially if they’re in the same space as you are. Anyway, these methods are non-invasive (apart from one :p) & if anything might bring you & other bloggers closer together.

Guest Posts: Bloggers go on holidays, go to events & shows. When no-one is around of course they need someone to fill their shoes! Building a good relationship with another blogger can be a good way to get a guest spot on their blog. If you write good content that attracts readers then you should have no problem dropping some links to your own blog. If they like what you have to say you’ll definately increase your readship twofold.

Submit Tips: Some blogs allow you to submit tips & tricks. If you’re a smart blogger you’ll try & think outside the box for this one. I get emails everyday of crap recycled tips. Generally they’ll get deleted straight away, that’s also why I stopped doing the Blog Carnival thing, hell all the submissions I got sucked. Try to be original, give them something they’ll be thrilled to post on their blog & you’ll definately get some attention.

Leave Comments: Comments are the easy way to generate some traffic from another blog. Try to make the comments on topic & also provide some useful information that perhaps wasn’t in the main post. If you can make the first comment on a post you’ll get the most views & traffic. I like to subscribe to Feedburners Email updates for this, it allows you to get notified as soon as a post is made. Hence get in there first

Adsense Advertising: I read a good post about this earlier on John Chow’s blog about how he advertised on Problogger then Darren replied with the amusing ad on the right. God knows what the CPM cost is for an Ad on Problogger, probably around $5-$8 CPM (Cost per 1000 Impressions).

Text Link & Banner Advertising: There’s also heaps of other ways to advertise, Direct Ads, Banners & even text links with brokers like textlinkads.

Textlinkads currently offers $100 discount on text links so loads of webmasters have been testing out the effect of having a link across 3 or so major players sites for a month.

Use Trackbacks: If you’re commenting about a post on another blog don’t be afraid to use Trackbacks. They’re an excellent way to let the bloggers know you like what they write enough to write a post about it. Readers can also view the trackbacks so that bit of extra traffic doesn’t hurt.

Mybloglog: Using Mybloglog is a great way to get additional traffic to your blog. Check out the post I made about Mybloglog last week telling you how to increase traffic.

Check Indexed Pages in Google using a Typo

I came across this little gem the other day & I’m sure once the rest of the search world get a whiff of it (unless Google fix it), it’ll probably spread like wildfire. So, you heard it here first

Using the site command you can check how many indexed pages you have in Google. Problem is that it’ll also display any Supplemental Pages as well.

I usually prefer to know exactly how many pages I have in the “Normal Index” minus the supplementals.

To do this I used to use: allinurl:www.earnersblog.com site:www.earnersblog.com

However a few days ago I realised that you can actually do the same thing with the site command by making a simple typo.

site:www,earnersblog.com

Notice how I made a typo by adding in a comma? This will return all your indexed pages minus any supplementals

If your site is indexed without any www. you can still use:

site:earnersblog,com

Adwords & Iframes, Outsmart your Competition

If you’re new to Adwords you may not be aware of this simple little pierce of information:

Two Ads that have the same display URL will never show at the same time, only the ad with the most relevancy will.

This in itself proves a problem, especially for affiliates that are all trying to promote the same URL.

Lets say for example you are trying to promote PPC on Earners Blog here. Your ad may look something like this:

Now what happens if I’m already promoting Earners Blog myself? That means that we both can’t promote the same destination URL. The destination URL must be the final URL that the user ends up at which in this case is http://www.earnersblog.com

However, all is not lost. There is a way for you to still promote that URL:

Firstly you need to have your own domain.
Create a subdomain similar to the destination url (i.e. earnersblog.blogspot.com)
Show a mirror of the original page in an Iframe

To show the original page in an iframe copy this code into an file called index.htm, replace the values to your own affiliate sites or the site you want to show in the iframe then place it in the subdomain.

Now when you set up a new creative in Adwords make your destination url whatever the subdomain is & also your display url will be the same. Now you can compete with other affiliates without worrying about CTR & your ad not showing.

Increase Your Adsense Earnings Overnight

You may wonder when checking your Adsense stats that you’re getting a lot of $0.01 clicks. The reason for this could be one of three things:

A) Your account has been Smart Priced
B) Your site is in a low paying Niche
C) You’re getting a lot of MFA (Made for Adsense) Ads on your site

Lets concentrate on C for now. Firstly, how do you know if you’re getting lots of these types of ads on your site. Install the Adsense Preview Tool which will allow you to preview the ads showing on your site.

The reason for low paying clicks is called Adsense Arbitrage. Webmasters bid low amounts on every keyword possible, they then redirect the user to another page where they are displaying higher earning ads. So for example say they get a particular keyword for $0.01 but they redirect the user to a page where they’re making $0.40 per click. That’s a markup of $0.39.

There is a way to filter out these types of sites. You can use the tool to visit them & see for yourself if it’s just a page full of ads. You can also visit Adsblacklist and use their constantly updated list of MFA Sites.

You should notice a considerable increase in your EPC (Earnings Per Click) when list is applied to your Adsense Filter List (Which is found in the Adsense Setup part of your Account).

Increase Page Views Per User on your Blog

Lately with a number of my blogs I’ve been trying to increase the amount of pages that a user will typically read each visit. It seems that bloggers have a severe case of ADD, or my writing just sucks :p The average user reads only 2 pages before leaving the site.

Generally bloggers aren’t too worried about Pageviews, since most of them monetize with Adsense; they would much rather have the clicks & the cash than the load on the server. However, increased pageviews can also lead to more subscribers to your blog rather than people leaving via an advertisement. Increased readership can increase your linkcount, trackbacks & also your online presence via word of mouth.

I’ve put together a small collection of tips to help you keep your readers longer:

Deep Linking within your Site: If you come to read a particular post via the search engines, chances are that you’re interested in that particular subject. Linking posts on a similar topic or subject together is a great way to keep the user browsing through your blog & content. Comment on previous posts that you’ve written with a link, think of this as how a comedian would refer back to previous jokes to keep the audience gripped.

Don’t Post your Full Content in RSS Format: If it can be helped just keep your RSS Feed to show an excerpt of your posts. Not the whole thing. This stops users from reading the posts in a Reader & forces them to come back to your site.

Refer to the Users not yourself: Capture the users attention & strike a bond with them. Talk about things that could potentially help them in your posts. If they find your blog a useful resource with lots of on point knowledge & information you’ll increase page views easily.

Targeted Traffic: Getting traffic from the engines that is highly targeted to the topic of your blog will increase the overall user satisfaction of your blog. Try to target specific keywords related to the blog & the post in your Title Tag & Copy.

Related Posts: If you’re using WordPress there’s a nifty little plugin that will allow you to show posts that are related to your current one. This will hopefully allow the reader to find more of your older posts & navigate deeper into your blog.

Good Navigation & Tagging: It’s important to tag your posts & place them in a good navigation system. You can also implement features such as the top 10 most read posts or the featured post plugin.

Creating a Series of Posts: Organising your posts into a series will almost certainly attract return visitors. A series could contain any number of posts, each revealing more & more information as time progresses, kindof like a soap opera :p

Responding to Comments: When a user comments on a particular post, take the time & effort to reply to any concerns or ideas. This helps you strike a bond with the reader.

Extra Features: Readers love functionality, polls, gravatars, email subscriptions, competitions all help increase the overall user experience for your blog.
