I accidentally came across these comments and frankly they seem to me fake. All posts prior to that infamous this hosting company. I can say that you've never been customers of hostican and only slanders the company. I am their customer for over a year and I am happy with it. Until now I have 100 % uptime. My site "automate-bf.com" which is hosted in hostican works perfectly. I intend very soon to update my shared account with VPS.

I Just joined with them and if their customer service, which advertises as 24/7 is any indication—I am outta there. They do not pick up the phone and the "instant" chat goes immediately to email. In some other world, we would call that false advertising.

HORRIBLE COMPANY!! DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!

They took my site down the second it inconvenienced them, I tried to work with them but they made it impossible, I ended up cancelling my service with them and moved to a new host, I was assured I would be refunded my initial up front payment minus what I had used, the second i put in the cancellation form they deleted my site, deleted my log in details and NEVER contacted me back.

I had to chase them up through the BBB after 6 weeks of trying to call them with no answer and email them with no replies and only then did they respond, their response was a load of shit that basically said they're keeping my money.

Bad company, Bad service and compete lies on what they advertise.

Oh and half their "good" reviews are done by some guy named gene who WORKS FOR THEM.

ATTENTION: I have a "Tera Host" plan with Hostican. They say "unmettered bandwith" an "1 Tb" of files, but they have a "file count" limit, 200.000 files. This limit is not in the Terms. I develop a site to a small journal, and this domain have 4 Gb. With 4 Gb, I have the site blocked for uploads.

unlimited bandwidth is actually an industry term for band width that performs well at regular levels then slows with increasing band width need so you are actually bettar off with a host that offers a definite band width number that is large then with a host that uses the unlimited band width semantics. i dont really know what im talking about but i did read that in wiki pedia. this article is biased i feel yes the deal is good but for a big traffic site would require a big traffic host like media temple because when there is a band width need spike a server for unlimited band width will probably freeze the site in the server or be the perpetual loader like some big under financed .com companies cough cough

I was with hostican for a couple years and as of the alst few months they are totally screwing people. I have a forum I have been running for 2 years with them and it has 5 active users and I get shut down a couple times a week.. FIVE USERS!!! Then are just grabbing as many hosting accounts as they can stuff on a server and screwing everyone. Leave them well enough alone unless you enjoy suffering.

Don't use HostICan, they used to be formally know IndexCore.com and they ripped people off such as me. I resold there servers for them and was suppose to make $80 for each one. They paid me for the first one, then after that I sold 3 more and they ran. They also blew off a lot of customers I knew personally that I recommended to them and it cause kaos and they didnt care. They then closed the doors and walked out on everyone. Then a few days later when i went to the site it came up as HostICan with all the same info such as who they are, how the got started, there location and all. Everyone needs to stay away from them

I recently moved to HostICan and I can safely say that I have not had any issues with them, I run a WP blog. I mean if your unable to move a simple blog, It means you should start reading online cause its not hard. The fact that you say its "hard" means that you need to learn as your site grows - you will have to install web apps (imagine that).... But seriously... just do it and stop complaining... easy stuff once you know.

I recently just moved to hostican because the other cheap site i was with (3ix) was down for over 24 hours and even erased my SQL database along with a bunch of other stuff! Luckily i had just backed it up a few days previous. I switched to hostican because they said they would transfer my site over. I signed up and signed up for the transfer and I an email from one of them saying since my site only has files (it's a blog) that I should transfer it myself. I am no computer pro. But they didn't stick with what they said they would do. So I'm not feeling very good about it. I used to be with liquid web for another site I had. They did it all for me. They were fantastic. I guess I should just pay the money and feel safe.

I know this comment thread is turning into what seems like an attack on HostIcan, but I too have been burned by this company. I've recently abandoned their sinking ship and am trying to spread the word to avoid them.

Since moving to a new host I have not encountered any dreaded CPU limit...which leads me to believe that their CPU limit is either broken or is an excuse to upsell their customers a VPS.

Which should also be avoided like the plague. <a href="http://forum.hostican.com/virtual-private-servers-vps/838-vps-problems-seems.html" rel="nofollow">Here's a scary thread about their VPS.</a>

Please, be diligent about who you host with.

I unfortunately had a similarly bad experience with Hostican. You can read about it here:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=667484

In just under a month it has become the 4th-most-replied thread in the shared hosting subforum at Web Hosting Talk (out of 53,000 total threads), which I highly doubt would have happened if only one or two people were having problems with hostican.

Many people have shared their negative experiences there, and there is something very wrong with hostican.

@ Kevin Jones:
> This is nothing but the same old stuff, over and over again, RLvB and
> Jennifer say the same thing in a million places…

More like 10. (And it's not like we're the only ones. I've seen about 40 people at it in various parts of the web.)

> like you got no life and nothing else to do. You both are very sad. Grow up.

I have a life; we just have different priorities. One of mine is to spread the word about companies that scam their customers.

I started using HostICan in December 2007. If anything like this had come up during my research of this host, I would never have given them my money. I would never have entrusted them with hosting my site, I would never have had any of these problems and I wouldn't have lost 20-30 hours of productivity (and uptime) trying to solve them.

If I can prevent even a single person from hosting with them, it's been worth it.

> FWIW - Their accreditation was revoked by BBB:

Indeed. Yet they still claim: "Our excellent standing in the BBB can't be matched."
Another lie.

Do your homework before hosting with hostican!
http://www.scriptygoddess.com/archives/2008/02/12/buyer-beware-do-not-host-with-hostican/

Whatever they tell you - if it's not working out - they will blame YOU and say you're abusing their service. Then they will not give you your money back. <a href="http://www.scriptygoddess.com/archives/2008/02/12/buyer-beware-do-not-host-with-hostican/" rel="nofollow">DO NOT TRUST HOSTICAN</a>

1) They need to fix their servers
2) They need to honor their refund policies!!!

FWIW - Their accreditation was revoked by BBB:

Hey guys,
I have had HostICan service for a while now and I can say with 100% honesty that they have been great. I would never choose another host because HostIcan suits all of my needs. Support has been always quick to respond and very helpful at getting my needs met. If this was an ebay sell i would say "A+++ would do business again." haha. All in all, great host, fast, good uptime.

> I’m not the only one having issues. Please read through their forum before
> they delete all the bad press.

They've already done that once before.
Last month, the Shared Hosting forum was literally full of complaints about this. They were all merged into a single thread, which was then locked and finally deleted. Fortunately I expected this, and saved a copy before the deletion:

http://gayteenforum.org/stuff/HostICan-deleted-threads/

380 posts.

> Interesting Issues Q, All I can tell you know is that I host about 50
> sites with Hostican. Two in Particular get over 10,000 uniques a day,
> use word press (with WP Super Cache) & I’m not hitting the CPU limits.

The problem seems to depend on the individual HostICan server the site is on. Most of the people I've spoken to who experienced this problem were on ESC06 or ESC10. (I have reported this to HostICan several times, but it was always ignored.)

I had been with them for about 6 months and starting in January they changed the way they monitor things and all hell broke loose. I woke up to check my site and saw a big error message stating that my account was suspended. From there it just got worse and they ended up canceling my site and providine me with a link to download my files that doesn't even work. I am still trying to liberate my files from them and they are very uncooperative to say the least.

I haven't been able to reach anyone on the phone since Tuesday. They never return your calls and when they rarely do respond to an e-mail it's very unprofessional and offers no support or assistance. Stay away from them!! Read all about it here.

I was running phpBB, getting about 10 posts per hour.

They told me that their shared hosting plans are supposed to be able to handle 75-100 people online on vBulletin, and even more on phpBB. But my forum was taken down with only 5-15 people online.

Initially the CPU logs showed load at about 4% when the forum got taken down. After I took some measures such as disabling attachments, gzip compression and search indexing, I got it down to around 2% during busy periods, 0-1% otherwise. The last time it got taken down, it was at 1.8%. Note that their stated maximum is 25% sustained for 60 seconds.

When I informed the support department of this, they didn't even get back to me.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, but it seems to be fixed now. What sort of pressure where you putting on their CPU?

HostICan was fine for the first two weeks; after that, I started getting plagued by errors saying I was overusing the server's resources. The support staff told me to access my CPU logs, but these confirmed that I had not in fact broken the limits stated in their policy. When I pointed this out, they started ignoring me.

Fortunately I was still within my 30-day refund term. After trying to resolve this issue for 2 more frustrating weeks and failing, I got my refund and left. I am now at a different host where I am experiencing no resource problems whatsoever.

My experience with HostICan has been very unsatisfactory.
