I have been with Downtownhost.com for almost a month now so I thought I’d post on how things have gone so far.

Background:
I was a full time web designer for several years till about a year ago when I got a full time IT job in a different specialization. I was hosted with Hostgator and was going to stop hosting sites (I’m pretty busy). Instead I decided to find something cheap. I signed up on December 1st with FatCow, and after about 24 hours decided to cancel and try a different host (connection - uploading/downloading, etc. were slow).

I decided after some research to try Downtownhosting. The cost I ended up paying was less than half per month what I was paying at Hostgator.

So far everything has been solid. Sales answered my questions quickly through live chat. I only had to contact support for one issue (not DowntownHost’s fault). The tech I talked with on their live chat answered my question/issue in just a few seconds. I like being able to contact support through both live chat and a ticket system.

I liked my time at Hostgator and so far everthing at Downtownhost has been just as good. There are three areas that (for me) make Downtownhost better:

1. Cheaper (but with the same quality of service).

2. Full Website Backups in cPanel work: I know this may seem like a small issue, but at Hostgator they had set their server so that I was not able to do a full website backup of my site(s) using cPanel. I am sort of a backup ‘freak’ (after losing a site to a hacker before, etc.) so making frequent backups is important to me.

3. The ability to do my own restores of deleted or corrupted files: I didn’t know it when I signed up for Downtownhost, but there is a link to "R1Soft Restore Backups" in the cPanel. It’s not mentioned during signup, but I’m able to look at backups for the last 10 days (one backup/day) and restore folders or files myself! The more backup options I have, the more comfortable I am.

So to wrap up, I highly recommend Downtownhost: I haven’t (so far) had any down time, server has been fast, support quick, options all seem to work, and the price is nice! I’ve tried/used 9 or 10 different web hosts over the last 6 years and I believe Downtownhost is my favorite so far.

A couple of the sites I have hosted with them are: wczone.com, broadmanchurch.org, and a few others.

Matthew

Oh… and Merry Christmas Folks! (We are having a nice Christmas here… though there is a blizzard outside… brrrr).
