Error when connecting to twitter api/oauth

I recently tied using the twitter API with oauth for login. When using the php script provided by twitter I get this error

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class OAuthException in /home/kidguru/public_html/wiurl.net/include/twitter/twitteroauth/OAuth.php on line 8

I tried the same script on two other hosts and it worked flawlessly. So I contacted hostgator support. After a few minutes I was told by the chat technician that the connection would not be possible and I would have to switch to a VPS for the connection the twitter API to work. I don’t see how this could be as the same script works on two other hosts and I have previously used this same script flawlessly on my hostgator account.
