Our previous 4.0 release brought you widgets, and 4.1 will surely prove even more exciting, putting more power into your hands than ever before. It has been our continuing goal to provide a script that can act as a directory of virtually anything, and by most measures, that day has arrived.

New Fields Galore!

Not only is it easier to add new fields to phpLD now, the base version of phpLD makes many more fields available which you can easily turn on or off both on the submit form and on the link details pages. Adding things like deep links or a fax number field is as easy as switching them on. And adding other fields that don’t exist is also much simplified. However, we still consider adding new fields an "intermediate level" task, and the help or advisement of a programmer or experienced phpLD user may be necessary. Nevertheless, it is much easier now. What is also in place is the ease of expanding the number of fields that come "pre-loaded" with phpLD. Just as we were able to add lots of widgets to phpLD, adding fields will be just as easy in 4.1 and beyond.

A couple of the "cool" new fields are:
Image (with 3 sizes, thumb, medium, and large in a lighbox)
File Upload
Site Links (as google does in serps)
Multiple Categories for Links
You’ll probably want to view the Link Types and Submit Items Video to get up to speed on how all of this works. From a developer standpoint, the ability to add mods, and roll out new types directories (or business models) has never been easier.

Ever get frustrated with the numerous Smarty Validation errors? We certainly did! While smarty is still great as a template system, the validation possible with Jquery is much more advanced, and easy to use. One of our developers who works regularly with our customers in the jobs area was ecstatic to find out we had made the decision to switch to Jquery. As you add submit items you have numerous choices on validators you can use. For example, you can make a field validate for a URL or an email, meaning that if the user fails to enter a URL in the field, they are given a warning message. There is plenty of room from a developer standpoint too to add your own custom validators.

Submit Page Much Easier to Setup and Organize

Just like widgets, you can choose which fields will appear and you can sort the order of the fields. As noted above, you can also add fields or turn fields on or off. And you can create as many link types as you like. In previous versions of phpLD you were mostly limited to things like Regular Links, Featured Links and Free with Reciprocal. Now you can name them whatever you wish, and have as many as you like. If you only offer one type then the submit form will simply display the fields for that single type. If you offer multiple link types, then radio buttons are used and the submit form is automatically updated using ajax when the user selects a different submit type. With near total control of what appears on the submit form, it is now easier than ever to create your own products and specials that are unique to your directory.

More Uses for phpLD Right Out of the Box!

Let’s say you wanted to use phpLD as a classified script. Simply edit your Link Type and assign the fields you need. In this case, you probably want to turn on the Price field (so users can see the price of the item), and then you would turn on the image field (so users can upload an image). And of course, you would turn on fields like title and description (maybe allow users to use one of the editors), and then you are up and running with a Classified Ad script. You can offer both free listings and featured listing.

The possibilities are limitless. Just turn on the fields you need, and go! If there is a field you need that is not present, it is easier than ever to add them. And if you need something more complex, we have a dev team that can help.

Hello all. I had a quick question about dedicated service. I am posting it here though because I currently have the shared hosting.

I plan on opening an online pet supply company in the next 2-4 months and was wondering if I need or should upgrade to dedicated hosting. I know I need a SSL for the payment processing but not sure if I need dedicated hosting. I do not think the traffic would be too bad in the beginning and if that is the only reason I would need to upgrade then I am sure I would be OK for a little while. I have several email addresses I am setting up filters on. Example:

account@domain.com
cat@domain.com
dog@domain.com

Now, I set up a working filter on account@domain.com like the following:

To equals account@domain.com, redirect to email: fish@domain.com

This works, and all emails to account@domain.com go to fish@domain.com.

I set up identical filters (with different filter names!!!) on cat and dog, but they do nothing at all. Can someone please help me? I cannot use the Cpanel forwarding because it leaves copies. I need filters to work and I cannot get them to, but there is no reason why they should not be working for all email addresses.

I was out-of-work for a few months in 2009 and my wife informed me that I needed to "learn new skills." After I grumbled about that, I decided to take her advice. I had an idea for a web site that I would use and thought others would like it too. The problem was that I hadn’t programmed in 15 years, certainly nothing web-based. So I cracked open a book (i.e., Google) and started learning. Fourteen months later, the result is http://www.sportsclimb.com

It’s NOT a team or league management system; there are plenty of those. It’s a social-networking site built for players. It’s purpose is to connect youth sports players with their "fans" — aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. It also lets players keep information about all their sports and teams in one place rather than scattered around the Internet or, worse, lost over time. Includes parental controls for the little kids.

Hi, I am a MySQL PS customer and I’m struggling trying to find a quick and reliable method of backing up my quite large database (approx 10 GB with some tables containing over 25 million rows). The database contains a mix of MyISAM and InnoDB tables. I’ve tried using mysqldump, but it just locks the whole database for several hours (making my busy website unusable for the duration) and mysqldump also has problems backing up InnoDB tables. In the past, I’ve received segmentation faults during the backup process and I’ve not yet managed to complete a full backup and I don’t want to bring my site down for several hours every time I try and do a backup (theoretically, at a minimum, I’d like to do a daily backup). As you can imagine, I’m becoming paranoid about not being able to create a proper backup of my database and while searching for a solution, I’ve come across some articles regarding LVM snapshots and this method seems to ‘tick all of the boxes’ in that it is a more or less instantaneous backup solution (minimal downtime) & also agnostic to table format. Trivial point, but some links in the default.html file that is includied in HG’s account initialization and provisioning package need to be updated with currently correct service links for new accounts. For example, it’s still using the URLs for HG’s old billing and ticket system.

Perhaps not so trivial for new clients trying to get to the right places.

There seem to be a lot of ways to skin this cat, but I haven’t found any available on the shared server. - I’ve done this using mod_python / PythonAccessHandler in another (non-DreamHost) project. Sadly, mod_python is only available on a private server - I tried to use WSGIAuthUserScript, but the htaccess directive: “AuthBasicProvider wsgi” causes an error: Unknown Authn provider: wsgi - I haven’t found any example of how to use FastCgiAccessChecker with python. - I thought about using a hack to add my Django users to a password file or database. But then they would have to log in again to get the files under AuthType Basic, Digest or DB. I want a single sign-on. - Django can serve static content, but claims to be insecure. Any idea how insecure? I don’t really know how to make it only serve static content to authenticated users. Any ideas?

He made it easy for me to relate to his ideas by using personal experiences from hosting his own sites. I think that is key to quality CS, talking to people not over them. Customer service of this quality is becoming so rare that anytime I come across someone who really does an exceptional job I make a point to tell others. On a scale from 1 to 10 he gets a 10, easy.

I’ve got a site on my shared hosting plan that was all static .htm pages. I’ve just finished rebuilding it in PHP and I would like to have any requests for requested_page.html be served requested_page.php. All the pages have the same names, just a .php extention.

But, it can only be for that one domain, not everything under my public_html directory.

I know it can be done but don’t know if I can do it myself and if my plan allows it.

Is there any way to have the http://domain.com/webmail redirect DISABLED for your account? Or, have it mapped to a specific location, besides the standard CPanel interface?

I’m migrating a site from another provider and the users have links to http://domain.com/webmail — unfortunately this redirects the user to the CPanel interface.

I would consider using the default installations of SQMail/Horde/Roundcube etc… if they were setup nicely. I do not understand why when going to http://domain.com/webmail I’m presented with a basic authentication username and password request, if I click cancel, I’m given a nicer looking login page.

Any thoughts?

My site was working perfectly, but now when I go to the site I see a GoDaddy page instead. Tech support told me to do a DNS flash and empty the browser cache. I’m having trouble writing a php CRON script that will be used to get data from an API. I get a 500 error and log entry “Premature end of script headers: myfile.php” whenever running it. Simplified, the script is the following (which still produces the error). I’m looking into transferring my data from a shared baby plan to a VPS but what I really want is a faster page load for my blog, but that sense of security of my blog is going to be ‘Digg proof’ and its going to with hold the future growth of my blog.

If you run WordPress on your VPS, let me know how fast it loads or reply with a link so I can test it myself. On average, my blog loads in around 5-9 seconds, which isn’t bad but I’d like it quick if possible. I’m picky if you can’t tell!

Hello, everyone. First of all let me say when it comes to website design and hosting and stuff like that, I’m a noobie. I had someone design my website for me ( http://www.kmncc.com ) and they did a wonderful job on it. The thing is, I’d like to do a choir singing contest and have the participants enter their videos for my staff to watch and decide who the finalists will be. Now, I know I have the storage, I just don’t know how to set up a link where they can upload their files to my site. DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS? OR can you point me in the right direction? I purchased a Dreamhost account with a domain name and received a confirmation email on 14 Aug. stating the domain had been purchased. It’s been nearly 2 weeks but the domain still hasn’t resolved. I’ve tried using a couple online ping tools ( Network Tools and Just Ping ) but they also cannot resolve the domain name. Domains that I’ve purchased in the past usually resolved in less than a week without any user interaction. Am I supposed to do something?
