lets see where to begin… I run a streaming video website. I had a dedicated webserver for a while but it cost to much. So I was talking to a few other webmaster in my same position. I basicly signed up for a reseller account thinking they would give me a little more CPU and RAM unlike shared hosting. I got booted from one before for using to much CPU and RAM and I’m hosting all the videos on youtube, facebook, myspace account. Then I embed them on my site. Its working great and its fast! so basically the reseller account was a good move. The issue is I have to do all the uploading and my users find it highly complicated and annoying when i tell then they have to upload the videos to there youtube account or facebook account that they do not have… keep in mind this is all in hopes of me not spending to much money lol. So I had an Idea. I was going to make a quick guide on how to upload to an FTP account and show them how to embed the videos. So for right now lets say I got 200 videos each gets a min of 500 views, and they are each 50mb and usually about 100 people downloading/streaming from the file server at any given time. what kind of file server would I need to get to handle those request. I’v been told ohh u just need a small cpu since its just files. but… it just sounds a lil hard to believe that 20k people downloading files from a file server all day everyday, it would only need a celeron and 4 gigs of ram.. I know the main website server uses a lot of CPU but thats already taken care of. your help would be very much appreciated. sorry if Im rambling.![]()
