I am currently running 2 websites on a VPS and essentially throwing my money away. Last year, I was hosting a small but popular forum with about 300 users (~30 simultaneous). We had a need for background processes and such also so a VPS worked out great.

I have now given away my other website and there is no point in maintaining the VPS so I am seeking shared hosting. My needs are extremely modest. I don’t expect to get something for nothing but if you read on, you’ll see that I certainly don’t need a VPS.

Website #1: This is my dog training business. I am running Joomla with quite a few mods and possible future plans to add a forum (likely a free one like phpbb, etc but vBB is a possibility) or social networking component to facilitate my volunteer work with various rescues and shelters. I deal almost exclusively with shelters and rescues over 3 states so max users on the site at one time can be guesstimated at around 20 (under special circumstances only) and normal usage we can assume would be around 5 users at a time.

I run CubeCart v4 though my business is primarily conducted offline. The cart is only there as a convenience to my clients who would simply prefer to pay for services online. In all honesty, I will likely remove the cart and simply move to a simple PayPal checkout. I need 2 email addresses with POP3 access. 500MB of HDD space would probably suffice though I wouldn’t mind more to host some more pics of our dogs and clients’ dogs. Current bandwidth usage is only about 2GB per month. I need 2 MySQL DBs for this one.

Website #2: This is a small computer and gaming related business. This is running on CubeCart v4 also. The number of products will run into the thousands but there are a maximum of 50 sales per month so usage is very low. Bandwidth usage is currently at ~1GB per month. 500MB HDD space should be plenty for this site. I have 4-5 email addresses associated with this domain, all of which are redirected to another mailbox. I currently only need 1 MySQL DB for this one but I would like the option of adding another.

My main concern is that I need both websites to be fairly quick, up and accessible at all times. (as most of us do) My current VPS server is incredibly stable so I got a bit spoiled. I’m in a bit of a hurry as well as my current server is due for renewal in a few days and I would prefer not to toss away another month’s payment on a server I don’t need. I appreciate any feedback you can give on either host for my specific needs or any other suggestions you can provide. I have no doubt both hosts are good based on the favorable feedback here so I am simply trying to determine which is best for me.
