The web hosting business has to be in serious trouble. What happened to companies with street addresses and telephone numbers? Every geeky high school kid owns a hosting company now.

As I’ve been doing some research on my present host for legal reasons, I’m finding that the "owner" is listed as the owner of multiple companies, all with slick web sites, in multiple locations. We’re lead to believe that his company is in one city, but then the he’s listed as owning another company in another major city, and his Facebook page shows him as living in a third major city.

This business needs to clean itself up. Our site has been down for 24 hours, and the only response I can get from them is that they don’t have an estimate when the problem will be cleared because of the nature of the hardware failure. It all sounds like a damn lie, to me. It sounds like they haven’t paid their bills, based on prior experiences I’ve had with hosting companies.

These bad apples are really screwing up the industry for the good guys. We mere consumers get screwed trying to differentiate one from the other. Something needs to change. Even the review sites don’t solve the problem.
