KnownHost reminds me of what SL Host used to be like, lightning fast servers, not oversold & also great support that really believe in transferring knowledge back to the customer so they can understand more about their server architecture.

Positive Comments we found:

Our Opinion of KnownHost

If you read many of the large hosting forums like WHT there’s normally 2-3 hosts everyone will recommend simply due to the service. KnownHost is one of these hosts, I’ve not seen any negative reviews anywhere about these guys & we have had nothing but good service with our VPS’ there. If you’re planning on investing in a VPS or a few VPS’ then make sure you add these guys to your Shortlist.

Where are your servers located (Geographically)?

Texas and California.

What is your average support ticket response time?

15 minutes

Do your support staff work at the datacenter, or remotely?

We have onsite technicians and remote technicians.

What is your average monthly uptime percentage (i.e. 99.9%)?

Well, this is where we are unique. Please see here. I would say 100% as it’s quite rare to experienced an issue with us.

How do you communicate downtime, outages & hardware issues with your customers?

We have a forum which we proactively update clients when issues are occuring or when there may be planned maintenance.

How well do you handle Traffic Spikes (i.e. Digg.com)?

This depends on the hosting plan the client has. Of course, our shared/reseller plans are not suited for such traffic spikes. Our VPS and Hybrid servers are easily upgradable so with traffic surges this can be handled much easier.

Do you have measures to accomodate this or do you make the site unavailable?

We wouldn’t make a site unavailable unless this is causing performance issues for others.

What measures do you have in place to help users scale their hosting needs with demand?

We offer a seamless upgrade path with no downtime from each VPS to VPS and or from a VPS to a Hybrid server. This involves no IP change which allows a quick and easy upgrade path. We also sell resources a la carte which is another cost effective approach to growing clients.

On a Shared Node or VPS Node how many users do you tend to allow?

VPS servers we host on average 15-20 VPS’s per server. Shared isn’t a focus of ours so this can be 50-100 clients roughly.

Some hosts offer Burst RAM & others prefer just to offer Guaranteed. Which solution do you offer & why?

At this time we offer Burstable RAM. We are quite experienced with Virtualization and have extensive knowledge in UBC based VPS solutions. It’s more complicated to manage for the provider but this does allow clients to get more RAM then their paying for so in turn a solution giving good bang for your buck. We do not oversell our servers so the Burstable RAM in many cases is available.
