Hi everyone,

I am the owner of the domain Links.com. Up until now, I have been using a shared server with Hostgator. I have also used Hostmonster. I prefer Hostmonster for its service but Hostmonster does not offer dedicated servers.

I am about to launch a new site on Links.com which should increase traffic quite dramatically. Maybe 10X. Maybe 100X. I don’t know. But traffic will definitely increase, so I expect a spike in CPU and bandwidth usage.

I am concerned that the shared server may not be able to handle the load, so I am thinking of going dedicated but there are so many options I do not know where to start.

By the nature of the application, each packet will be quite small. No video, photos, or other high bandwidth data. Just small packets but very frequent. Also, the database access is limited and there should be minimal I/O disk access, if the database is kept properly in memory by MySQL.

I am looking for reliability and 24×7 telephone support which I get presently from Hostmonster and Hostgator.

Should I go dedicated? If so, how do I start looking for a reliable vendor?
