I also have another site with unitedhosting.com

The main reason for going dedicated was that I had a couple of sites that required a lot of storage, though I will soon be offloading these so the storage requirement will no longer be needed.

Although my current host seems to be reliable and support is good, I’m not really happy with the speed of the server, and if possible I would like to take the opportunity to reduce my monthly hosting cost. Currently around $220p/m

I also have a couple of sites that get onto Digg and other social media sites fairly regularly, this grinds my current server to a halt so staying where I am isn’t really an option.

I have looked into cloud hosting, and although it promises a lot, I’m not too impressed so far. I tried out Media Temples Grid service, and I found the support to be unbearably slow and unhelpful and even during setting up the domains I was noticing an unacceptable number of 404 errors and slow page load times.

So does anyone have any ideas what I should be looking for, is there a cloud host that actually delivers what it promises? A VPS that can cope with large traffic spikes? A cheaper dedicated (managed) option that can offer improved hardware to cope with the extra traffic spikes without costing the earth?

Maybe I’m asking for too much with too small a budget?
