I have to admit that to date I’ve been rather disappointed with the hosting performance of my site. The first few days performance was blazing fast but over the last 2 to 3 weeks performance is painfully slow most of the time.I’ve chatted with technical support several times and while everyone has been very nice, nobody to date has been able to resolve the issues. I’m told pretty much universally yeah, the server load is "high", let us look into it, we wait about 15 minutes, I’m told that their "best tech" is on it and performance should return in a few minutes. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t but then we turn back around and have to go through this process all over again the next day or day after.
I’m quickly losing faith in Hostgator…my reputation is on the line here as I’ve been working hard to convince our company to move off from Powweb.com to another host.
My site is Joomla based and on a couple of occasions fingers have been pointed to it but I also have a mostly "out of the box" install up and when performance of the main site suffers, performance of my out of the box setup suffers too.
I’ve seen server loads of 4 at best (which according to others when a dual processor server is around 4 to 8 that’s a reasonable load) but more frequently the load is anywhere from 12-20 and on many occasions the server load has been in the 30s, topping out at 38 yesterday for a short period of time). I understand this isn’t a particularly scientific measure, but I can just feel on my site when the loads are high and sure enough when I check the control panel loads are between 20 to 30 usually).
I fear that if things don’t improve quickly I will have to ask for a refund and find another host. I’m desperate for any assistance as "standard operating procedure" has been less than dependable at this point.
