i switched to cpanel-host.us on january 1st, because my previous host provider wanted to raise my payment by 300%. the reason i chose cpanel-host.us was because, after investigating other providers, i had a conversation with steve wiseman (the owner of cpanel-host.us) and he said their price was good for the life of the account. they had been in business for 4 years, as well, which i considered to be a good sign.

they gave me the new DNS numbers and i switched my domain, and got my nameservers established, and about 3 days later, they upgraded their servers, gave me new DNS numbers and asked me to switch again, which i did.

it turns out that he doesn’t offer SSH service, because he’s uncomfortable with the security risks. i am used to having at least jailshell access, but i can do the same things that i would use SSH for with cpanel’s graphic user interface, it will just take a lot longer, because i can only access permissions (for example) for one file at a time.

meanwhile, the email services for me, and for my clients, which includes a 50-address mailing list, were in a sort of limbo. messages weren’t getting through, nobody had any idea who to contact, and the support staff from cpanel-host.us was taking its time and not telling me anything. i finally got my mail services and my mailing list working a couple of days ago, but today i got an email from admin at cpanel-host.us saying that if i have a mailing list on their servers after the 17th of january, that my account will be suspended.

i find it really ironic that two days ago they were helping me set up a mailing list (which is for a community band, and has been going for 2 years at various different hosts), and today they are telling me that i have less than two days to find another mailing list provider or my account will be suspended.

i’ve submitted a ticket (the only way i have of getting in touch with them), but it’s after business hours on friday, and they usually don’t answer tickets except during business hours, which means that by the time they get around to my ticket, theoretically, my account will already have been suspended.

at this point, i’ve played the "switching host providers" game far too much during the past year. this one will be my fifth time in a year… :mad:

why do people think that they can get away with treating their customers so poorly?
