I feel like todays unpredicted server outage (and server maintenance in general) should be announced as soon as possible via some sort of direct communication. I was thinking like an opt-in email blast or something like that. I know that you guys try and send an email to the billing contact when you know a server will be down, but no such thing happens when a server goes down without warning. I’m a reseller, so it would be really nice to learn about a server outage direct from Host Gator…not from my own clients.

It would also be nice for this list to be a "rolling update" kind of a deal where each new development is posted. So when the server goes down, I’d get an email right away. When they figure out why it went down, I’d get another email to update me what the problem is and how long you think it will take to fix it (so I have something to tell my clients). And, finally, when it comes back online, I’d get one last email saying it was back to normal and the final say on the real cause of the issue.

Seems to me that this wouldn’t be that difficult to start (it can just be a global opt-in list at first). But eventually it would be nice if you’d only get these email alerts if one of your sites was affected.

Just a simple way to help keep us customers in the loop without having to check the forums after complaints from our clients.
