Singlehop Interview

We caught up with Dan from Singlehop & asked him 10 questions about their hosting solutions:

Where are your servers located (Geographically)?

Chicago, IL

What is your average support ticket response time?

10-15 Minutes at busy times, 5 minutes at off hours.

Do your support staff work at the datacenter, or remotely?

All of our staff work out of our Chicago office or our Chicago data center locations. We do not have any remote employees.

What is your average monthly uptime percentage (i.e. 99.9%)?

We guarantee 100% network uptime and have met our guarantee past three months consecutively.

How do you communicate downtime, outages & hardware issues with your customers?

We send a RFO (Reason for Outage) document to all affected clients in the event that we have an outage.

How well do you handle Traffic Spikes (i.e. Digg.com)? Do you have measures to accomodate this or do you make the site unavailable?

Our network is capable of nearly double the capacity and is specifically designed to handle large spikes in traffic and transit.

What measures do you have in place to help users scale their hosting needs with demand?

SingleHop specializes in on-demand high availability hosting. We design custom configurations that are scalable from the get-go.

On a Shared Node or VPS Node how many users do you tend to allow?

We do not offer shared or VPS hosting. Only dedicated and managed servers.

Some hosts offer Burst RAM & others prefer just to offer Guaranteed. Which solution do you offer & why?

We do not offer burstable RAM. Our servers all include dedicated sticks of RAM.

In 100 words or less, why should our readers host with you?

In everything we do, we try to do it better. When buying servers, for example, we make sure that they are manufactured using environmentally friendly processes and that when they are powered on, they use (on average) 30% less electricity. Data Centers and servers use 1/5th the world’s electrical supply. In reducing our power use, we are also reducing our long term expense for power.

By reducing our costs, we are able to pass the savings of our dedicated servers and small business dedicated web hosting services on to our clients.
