Hostgator allows only 500 emails per hour to be sent. I want to use a alternative
mailserver which i run myself on a serverpc.

We have a big forum with many members and when i want to bulkemail them it will
exceed the limit of 500/hour.

In the forum admincp i set up the SMTP server settings appropiately but the forum cant
connect to the mailserver i set up because a socket cannot be opened.

Is this a hostgator issue or is it something on the mailservers end?
