I read the rules and I don’t think I’m violating any rules by posting this.

I have a web hosting review website and I’ve found it to be fairly unsuccessful. If you search for popular keywords for the niche, you’ll get multiple review sites at the top of natural search rankings, with ridiculous amounts of links, and multiple review sites using adwords. The keywords they’re using are costing them anywhere from $6-$12 for #1-5 placement. I’ve used adwords on multiple occasions to see if the cost would compare to the productivity that it brings; and it didn’t.

It leads me to believe that popular hosting companies just might make these sites rating their own hosting as #1. Popular hosting wouldn’t care about spending $150 to per signup for advertising costs. The end user setting up a hosting review company could never afford these costs.

The only option I see is to gain natural high rankings to avoid adword fees. Or focus on specialized hosting reviews, IE: ecommerce hosting, linux based, joomla hosting, green hosting etc. which, while still being a challenge, would be considerably easier to achieve top 10 rankings than a generalized keyword like "best hosting" or "hosting reviews".

I assume hosting affiliate links would do wonders on, for example, a template website, or something of that origin.
