After spending a couple of years with one host I transferred to another after having a routing issue that put my site offline to much of the internet. To cut a long story short it looked like my ISP and Host were going to start a circle of who was responsible, in the meantime my site had been unavailable to various parts of the internet for nearly two weeks…….the easiest solution was to bail out to another web host.Unfortunately I didn’t do my homework properly and ended up with a very unsatisfactory host, hence I’m here looking for another provider. I nearly went back to my original provider, but as they still haven’t noticed that their routing provider has a dodgy router this isn’t an option, apart from that they don’t provide static IPs which I’m now looking to move to.
Finding a decent web host has proven to be like looking for rocking horse manure. Anyway, I hope someone can help, and this is what I need (not a lot actually):
1). UK server based Shared Cpanel hosting (preferably not a reseller), with a good connection to the rest of the world.
2). Webmail (e.g. Squirrel etc) accessible via mydomainname/webmail or similar (ability to create/manage/redirect email via Cpanel)
3). Static IP assignment
4). Some webstats
5). .htaccess redirects via Cpanel (not essential, but useful if you can’t be bothered editing yourself).
6). MySQL could be useful eventually
7). FTP access (obviously)
8). A few sub domains and parking for just a few other domains
7). cgi-bin access
8). A Gig or two of file store
9). Bandwidth, not masses, but storage and bandwidth seem to be linked in costing packages. At a guess I would suspect that the bandwidth dictated by file store would be more than enough in any hosting package.
10). Budget….well, I don’t expect to get something for nothing, but I would have thought £100 P/A or even a bit more should get me what I want perhaps? Many thanks in anticipation of some much needed recommendations.
Paul
