They basically work like this you can say: If category = this then display this If homepage then display this If post then display this If post in certain category then display this (like I did with the ratings part) You can also use a few other nifty features like custom tags & custom category templates to really give your blog a unique feel. The documentation on the Wordpress site goes into conditionals quite well, I recommend reading up on: is_single() in_category() is_home() :) You can also do that, but you still need the conditionals to tell WordPress which file to call.
