This is where it starts to get fun! Different topics monetize differently, i.e. it’s easier to monetize a site about Mobile Phones than a site about Saving the Rainforest. It’s easier to rank on Google with a website about Seattle Graffiti Artists than Home Insurance Loans (as that is a HIGHLY competitive industry). This is where we need to do some research into various topics. Generally if you can get a website up quickly about a new product or idea, if that product makes it big then your site should get a lot of traffic.

Researching can be fun, you can come across topics you never thought were so popular, write them down for future projects.
Research is based around Keywords. Keywords are the most important part of creating a website. They are the words that identify your site & also that people will search to find your site. I use Digital Point’s Keyword Suggestion Tool for all my keyword research, as well as a few other programs that I’ll talk about later in the series.

Use the tool to research the niche or area that you want to create your website on. Research is vital.

Now that we know about the various types of Affiliate Marketing we need to figure out the best way to implement each type. Doing this depends on the type of product, service or site that you want to create.

Usually the best way to get started is to create a website about something that you love or enjoy. The advantages of undertaking this first project can teach you the basics before you jump feet first into serious, product focused, Affiliate Marketing.

So, let’s say that you’re crazy about surfing in a particular spot on the Southern Coast of Australia. Why not create a nice informative site about the spot, with related information. Or maybe you enjoy Beach Volleyball, make a small site about that…

But how can doing something like this help me?

Jumping in at the deep end can be VERY frustrating. If you know nothing about how the internet works, how website promotion works & how affiliate marketing works it’s unlikely that you will be able to create a website that can compete with the hundreds of other competitors out there.

Now that we’re making some progress lets take some time out for another Lesson. Eventually, you’re going to need to invest in one of the most important purchases of your online career. Webhosting.

Webhosting comes in various different forms & in general can be quite confusing for someone who doesn’t know that they’re looking for. I’m going to give you a quick run down of what I personally feel is important for you to have with a webhost, recommend a few hosts I’ve had experience with & at least then you will be a bit more knowledgable when the time comes to make the leap.

What do you need Webhosting for?

Webhosting allows you to create websites, pages, forums, shops, newsletters & much more. It allows you to market your products however you see fit, it allows you to set up a personal blog, communicate with people who visit it or even receieve email to your personal address (yourname@yourwebsite.com).

It is vitally important if you want to try & earn money online that you have a good reliable webhost, one thing also to remember is that expensive often doesn’t mean reliable. I’ve used about 6 webhosts over the past 5 years & it’s amazing how much things have changed, especially things that people now take for granted.

As I mentioned in my previous post Affiliate Marketing is a method by which you can sell (or promote) other peoples products & take a cut or commission of the profits to Earn Money Online. There are a few different types of Affiliate Marketing Models that we are going to have a look at.

You can be rewarded for referring potential buyers in various ways:

Pay Per Click: You are paid for each user that clicks through from your site to the advertisers site. Usually ranging anywhere from $0.01 through to $2+ depending on the advertiser & or product.

Pay Per Lead: You are paid whenever you generate a lead or a sign up, this is more commonly known as a CPA or Cost Per Acquisition model. This can be something as simple as getting a user to sign up to a mailing list or enter a competition. This can range from $0.50 right up to $100+ again depending on the product or service.

It’s important to understand the different methods for Earning Money Online. Once you grab the basic concept you will probably notice how the internet is littered with people trying to do the same thing.

There are two basic principles for making money:

1. You can sell your own products online
2. You can sell other peoples products online

Most people opt of the latter of the two options & this is what I will mostly be concentrating on explaining. The reason for this is because most people who start out trying to Earn Money Online do so in their spare time & then once they reach the point where they’re making more than their normal job then they will move into it on a full time basis. After all, it doesn’t make sense to quit your day job & try to do this full time without really knowing what you’re doing…..

Once you reach Full Time status you may then want to start developing your own products or ideas, many people do go down this route as it ‘cuts out the middleman’ so to speak. I will also be giving advice for people who have already started their own product range in this blog also so don’t feel left out at all

When first learning about what it takes to make a living online it is easy to get lost in a world of imaginary guidebooks that will help you “start making money within minutes.” It all sounds so easy, you’re uneducated, what do you have a lose? Your OWN money of course!

Lets think about it logically, if you knew some awesome way to make $1000/day that no-one else knew about, would you go running straight to your PC to write a book about it OR capatalize on it?

Yeah that’s right it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that one out. So what can we deduce from this? That MOST (Not all) of these types of books will contain old methods that don’t work as effectively anymore. So you end up buying a concept that 1000′s are already putting into practice; whilst the writer of the Ebook is out making money on a newer more up to date method. I guess this is why when the books first come out they’re priced at $197, then they sloooowly reduce in price. Whenever you see a book that’s been reduced to $39 that probably means it’s well past its sell by date and alarm bells should be ringing.

I’d like to start by saying welcome to the Blog, we hope you find this a great resource in your journey on the road to Earning Money Online at Home.

First of all, forget all those Get Rich Quick books. We do not claim to make you instantly rich overnight; but what we will succeed in helping you achieve the knowledge that you need to Earn Money Online.

We will explore various avenues, recommend the products to utilise, the resources to read. Don’t expect us to recommend resources in order to make a quick buck; we plan to show you which resources are money making scams & how to avoid such schemes.

Lets face it, making money from home is certainly something that everyone aspires to. It enables you to spend more time with the family, manage your OWN time & give the flexibility you need to enjoy life (see our working from home tips).

However I cannot stress enough that it takes patience & time to reach that level. You will be putting in a lot of hours probably working less than the minimum wage, but when you reach your goals; it’s worth it. When you surpass your goals, it’s a bonus.

So I welcome you to come on this journey with me, get ready to work from home & earn money. I do hope that you learn not only what I have learnt, but also learn with me.
