Revver: The Future of Making Money Online?
28. Nov 2006 | 1 Comment
Revver is similar to Youtube in many ways. You can upload movies, watch them & share them with your friends. However there is one fundamental difference that sets Revver apart from Youtube. You can make money.
I really don’t know why Youtube didn’t think of this first, I mean only monetizing their website with Banner Ads & Adsense when they’re serving I don’t know how many millions of video hits per day?
Revver works like this:
You can make a movie, upload it to Revver. Whenever someone watches the movie right to the end, a clickable ad is displayed. If they click on the ad (which is usually targeted to the topic of the clip) then you get a royalty. The CPC is currently averaging $0.70, which when you consider how badly video sites pay out on Adsense it should be easy to cash in.
You can also make money by being a publisher. This means you can display other peoples movies on your site & you get paid a smaller royalty when someone clicks on the ad displayed at the end.
Personally, I think the possibilities are huge for this type of advertising. Especially when you think how easy it is to syndicate video content. Scripts have already been made that integrate Revver into Drupal automatically updating with hundreds of videos per day. The only flaw I can see is that you need to be selective with the videos you syndicate. Why? Well since the ad is only shown at the end I see a few problems with getting users to click:
- The video is boring so the user doesn’t watch it to the end
- The video is too long
- The ad doesn’t relate to the video content
However, if you’re making your own videos you’re going to need to make it as viral as possible. You want everyone to want to syndicate it onto their site, because that’s where you’ll get the big bucks. Look at someone like Ask a Ninja, he’s syndicating all his stuff on Revver now after building up a big following on Youtube.
Some iconic Youtube members like lonelygirl15 have also made the switch to Revver (Why moan when you can make money & moan at the same time eh?).
So if you’re an avid Youtube user & you’re interested in making a few more dollars to fund your late night video binges check Revver out
