Google made a stab at putting sitelinks on one of my sites: it extracted a navigational axis, which was smart, but it didn't help because there were more than 300 pages along that axis. There was an exceptional event a week later which caused the auto-protection systems to kick in. My rankings dropped temporarily and I think there was a manual review -- and the sitelinks were gone.
