Ten Reasons why you should be in Affiliate Marketing
22. May 2007 | 14 Comments
I know there’s a lot of reluctant people out there, still grinding away with Adsense. Many have taken the path of Affiliate Marketing & had success, others have fallen at the first hurdle, whimpering back to Adsense like a child whose candy has been stolen.
Here’s my top 10 reasons why you should be doing Affiliate Marketing:
- Affiliate Marketing is not a solo project, you can integrate it into your existing monetisation systems to increase your income portfolio. Don’t treat it separately.
- Affiliate Marketing not only diversifes your income portfolio but it also reduces the risk of losing all your income should something happen to another account (i.e. Adsense).
- You have the ability to target the products & services that you WANT to target, rather than rely on Adsense or YPN to contextually target related products.
- You can place Affiliate Links in PDF’s & benefit from people reselling the ebook.
- Products & conversions will normally pay out in a lump sum for a signup or lead rather than paying out per click, promoting the right products in the right way can result in an fantastic EPC (Earnings per Click).
- There’s hundreds of Affiliate Networks to work with, each specialising in different areas.
- Affiliate Marketing is a great way to supplement other investments, for example I put all of my Affiliate Marketing earnings in Investments to greater increase their worth. If I wasn’t doing Affiliate Marketing I’d not have those additional investments therefore my overall income, savings & retirement plan wouldn’t be as secure.
- One of my favourite things about Affiliate Marketing is the ability to be able to think outside the box & be creative with what you’re doing. For example check out this website I saw a few days ago called Blackle. It an “energy saving” search engine. I.e. a Google Adsense search box with a black background. Ingenious.
- Affiliate Marketing relates directly to Search Marketing in a lot of capacities. SEO, PPC, Conversions & Analytics. Experience in these fields can look great on a CV & also show experience within the industry.
- There’s nothing better than waking up in the morning, checking your conversions & having it bring a big grin to your face. Even better, tweaking your campaigns as much as you can to squeeze that last bit of revenue out of them.

Great entry Stuart.
Yep, Affiliate Marketing is a bit harder than just displaying AdSense, but I agree with you.. it’s worth the effort.

I think the best about affiliate programs is the diversification and the choice – after all we are all looking for some stability in terms if cash flow

I definitely agree that it is much harder to do than just slapping up some adsense ads. If you do put in the time and research though affiliate marketing can be very worthwile.
I really like #8 on the list and your right Blackle is definitely some outside the box thinking.

Good post, Stuart!
Everybody should do affiliate marketing! Doesn’t matter if you do AdSense (a.k.a wasting traffic), sell your own product, blog, etc.
I was an affiliate right from the start, then I moved to AdSense arbitrage, failed terribly & went back to affiliate marketing.
Thank God for affiliate marketing!

Not to mention the additional freedom you can get if you make enough to live off of, this industry in my own opinion is one of the funnest one around. Its so dynamic and its always changing, its always interesting to try and push the barriers and beat out how much you’ve made the previous month.

What I like about affiliate marketing is that you learn a lot of stuff in doing research for new niches and stuff. Then there is the money. Affiliate marketing is great.
