I’ve been thinking about ways to leverage other languages for traffic as well especially after reading Technorati’s recent State of the Blogosphere indicating that Japanese accounted for the greatest number of blog posts in Q4 2006. I don’t speak Japanese but I do speak Spanish and I can see some problems with these translators that might limit their impact. On the other hand, isn’t it somewhat likely that readers who go to the trouble of using translators would expect some problems?

even if the translation sucks, shouldn’t the fact that you now have more indexed pages, boost your page ranking?

Of course it boosts unique visitors as you’re getting more & more pages indexed. If it boosted page views only that would mean your existing visitors would be looking at more pages; which they aren’t because the translate flags are hidden at the bottom of the blog

Frankly, the chinese translation to your blog is pretty laughable. sure this plug-in can increase the traffic but I doubt if those foreign traffic would convert.
